Publisher's Summary

If you can’t stand the heat, don’t fall for a firefighter....

Fire Chief Lincoln Reed is known for his heroics in the fire department and in the bedroom. Life is a never-ending good time. Until she lands in the middle of the accident scene he’s working...and then his backyard. Too bad she’s immune to flirty first responders.

Flight trauma surgeon Mackenzie O’Neil is on a crash course with burnout. She’s got a scar on her face and a shake in her hands. A temporary job as a small-town family physician is just the prescription. She’ll learn to meditate. Sleep more. Take up gardening.

She definitely won’t take her shirtless, firefighting neighbor’s hot body for a test drive.

But Linc and his tattoos are very persuasive. What’s a harmless little adrenaline-fueled fling between neighbors? It’s all naked fun and games until the shadows from Mack’s past find their way into her present. Can Linc be her hero when she needs him the most or will their scars ruin everything?

One thing is certain: Someone is going to get burned.

Author’s Warning: This small-town happily-ever-after is smokin’ hot, sweetly hilarious, deliciously suspenseful, and a one-two punch to the feels. One-click for a disaster dog, precocious kids, a good ol’ fistfight, nosy neighbors, high-adrenaline first responder heroics, firefighter bromance, and kitchen sexytimes.

Protecting what’s mine

Oh my! I absolutely loved Linc and Macs story. It was sooooo worth the wait! The depth behind Linc, what everyone sees vs who he truly is. Mac picking herself up and becoming something/someone with her background. How she ties in with Luke and Aldo. Lucy Score is a masterminding Genius with all her little tie bits and Easter eggs that all come full circle.

Hot fire chief Linc.

This book has everything. Laughter, tears, an insane big sister, a delusional mother, sexy doctor and a hot fire chief. I couldn’t put this book down, the story is beautiful, the plot so well developed. This book is definitely a favorite of mine. Bravo, Ms. Lucy

Loved it!

“This is the flirtation leading up to the first date,” he explained. “A Lincoln Reed First Date isn’t a spontaneous run-in. A Lincoln Reed First Date is a carefully curated experience designed for maximum enjoyment.”
In this third, and final, trip to Benevolence, we journey with Fire Chief Lincoln Read and his love match, Dr. Mackenzie O’Neil on their way to HEA. In a true Lucy Score fashion, their road is paved with hilarious banter, nosy family and community members, ALL the feels, steam and swoon, as well as demons from the past trying their best to stand in the way of happiness for Hotshot (Linc) and Dreamy (Mackenzie).
This book had me crying and laughing from the first chapter and I LOVED catching up with Luke and Harper, Gloria and Aldo as well as all the couples and their offspring we’ve encountered through the years in Benevolence.
Lucy score is an extraordinary story teller, her characters jump off the pages and become a part of your world as you are reading this beautiful story of healing and giving love a chance.
....AND then there is Sunshine, Linc’s yellow lab, his “best girl”, with the uncanny ability to provide comfort to her loved ones and to have everyone fall in love with her and feed her treats.
This is a definite must listen/read!!!

5 Shooting Stars!

Natalie Duke lends so much emotion to this thrilling romance! I love her narration!
From the first heart-pounding chapter to the last sweet words, this book captured my attention and my heart. When Fire Chief Lincoln Reed first sees Doctor Mackenzie O’Neill step off a helicopter at a horrific crash scene he is smitten, and so was I! Chief Sexy Pants and Doc Dreamy are two of my favorite characters ever. They are both smart, complicated, strong, confident, scarred, and vulnerable. They both know what they want, but will they end up wanting the same thing? Transient Mack and hometown hero Linc are so much more than I expected, I loved their rocky road to love!
This book is exciting, funny, sweet, heart-pounding, and incredibly sexy! I loved going on the ride-along that is Protecting What’s Mine!

Linc finally get's his HEA

Narrator Review:
Natalie Duke does a good job bringing the characters to life.

Book Review:
Back to Benevolence we go! I have been waiting for Lincoln Reed to finally get his HEA, and did he ever!

Linc (Chief Sexy Pants) and Mack (Dr. Mc Dreamy) meet at an accident scene. Fire Chief Linc is a ladies man. He will never settle down with one lady. Mackenzie is a flight trauma surgeon trying to slow down and not get burned out. She comes to Benevolence to just try to have a change of pace. Bring on the STEAM! When these two meet, there is no fire hose big enough to stop the flames from burning these two up!

Oh how Mack tries to not fall under Linc’s sexy spell. These two neighbors and friends try hard to resist each other. But they cannot resist the pull and I loved reading how they fell in love with each other.

Throw in crazy family, friends and neighbors and you have a great small town that helps get these two together. We met back up with Luke, Harper, Gloria and Aldo again and I loved hearing how their family grew! I cried, laughed, and cheered while I devoured this book.

Lucy, you sure know how to write lovable alpha-men and strong kicka$$ women! You make it hard to read someone elses books! Pretend You’re Mine was my first ever Lucy book, I have read it more than 20 times! I know I will read Protecting What’s Mine just as many times! How can you keep getting better at creating whole worlds I want to live in with well written characters that I feel like I personally know? All I can say is… PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING!

Disappointed

I had high hopes for this book. It started off really strong. But, by chapter 13 when there was a barbecue and I got confused by SO many people, I really started to lose interest. I like Lucy Score, have read a book or two written by her, but just couldn’t finish this one. Also, not a fan of Natalie Duke, so there’s that. Can’t recommend a book I couldn’t finish and didn’t even listen to the entire epilogue before ending it. This book just wasn’t for me.

McDreamy & Hotstuff

Great Story of first responder and the dangers they face, and the emotions that come with the successes and losses. Natalie is a great narrator for both and all characters portrayed. Great Story and HEA

Forced and pushy

Too forced as relating to other books. I really enjoyed Book 1, but this one I just couldn't get into the story. The same sex couples push was surprising and again "forced". Multiple new couples mentioned with zero addition to the story was just weird.

Amazing small town romance

I fall in love with Lucy’s writing more and more with every book. She always brings the right amount of humor, steam and suspense. Linc and Mackenzie had so much chemistry and were so great together. There is so much fun small town shenanigans, there was also a lot of emotions mixed with great rescue scenes. I listened to this book and Natalie Duke was amazing. She did a great job with giving each character their own voice. Highly recommend this book, a five star read/listen for sure.

Good story

This isn’t just a love story between two people, it’s a story about a whole community of people that support the two people falling in love. This is a slow burn story with a HEA.

3.5, enjoyable

Didn't skip through much (mostly just child neglect and toxic family scenes). most entertaining, which is the escapism i seek. fairly well rounded out characters that make sense, and largely realistic dialogue- mostly a bit weak on male leads part (bit too flowery, and not really in keeping with moment). narrator did a good job for all character's. I think she does makes voices well - BUT she frequently gets the tone or delivery wrong for the scene and age, often made Linc sound more like a young adult than mature male, but could mostly set aside.
