Publisher's Summary

Set yourself up for life as early as possible and enjoy life on your terms!

Are you tied to a nine-to-five workweek? Do you work hard making someone else rich? Are you financially free - the sort of free that ensures you spend the best part of your day and week, and the best years of your life, doing what you want? Would you like to retire from wage-paying work within 10 years? Why not build and follow a plan that allows you to live the life of your dreams?

This isn't about saving up a nest egg. It's not about setting aside money for a "rainy day" or just accumulating an emergency fund. It's about building out a Financial Runway. It's about creating enough readily accessible wealth that you can survive without work for a year. Then five years. Then for life. Set for Life is a three-step guide that gives listeners the fiscal confidence they need to achieve early financial freedom. Listeners will learn how to:

  • Save more income - 50+ percent of it, while still having fun
  • Double or triple your income in three to five years
  • Secure "real" assets and avoid "false" ones that destroy wealth

Here's to fiscal confidence, here's to giving up a nine-to-five job, and here's to being set for life!

Amazing ideas that I wish I knew 15 years ago!

The book is an amazing tool to teach individuals how to save and invest. This book would have been a great gift that I wish my parents gave me when I graduated college! The concepts and ideas make sense and are easy to follow. However, I’m a 35 year RE investor with more than a handful of properties, a lot of debt and I have a wife and three children. The teachings of this book will be much harder for me to incorporate into my life but it can be done. You may be reading the review and asking why would this individual be upset about not reading this book sooner if he has investment properties already and a family, etc. etc. well if I read this sooner I would have been better able to leverage my capital in a more educated way to be closer to the goal of financial freedom! Read this book for it’s obvious reasons and adjust its teachings to meet your needs and life style. That is what I will do.

Useful info dictated by a non-annoying voice

I gained info I have not found elsewhere. The point of view and narration is easy to understand and worth the time to listen too.

Set for American life

This book is mainly geared for the average American office worker with little or no understanding of personal finance. However the book have some main good points and will set the foundation for anybody interested in improve its personal finances. The best key points I like from the book are: focus on lower your mayor fixed expenses (housing), clean up any bad debt before you start to invest or acquire any good debt. Understand what your goals are. Review your net worth regularly. Understand how you are spending your time and how that will impact your finances in the long term. Understand how leverage can accelerate you to faster reach financial freedom. I think the best advice from the book is about the false idea / trap of stock picking as a way to reach financial freedom which I think many investor experience over a lifetime. The bad thing with the book is that it is heavy geared towards American people/context and based on the authors own experience and circumstances. Example of a strange advice given in the book: "if you cannot house hack the move to another city where you can". Should both me and my wife quit our jobs, move to another country/city just so that we can house hack ? just becomes house hacking was working for the author does not mean it will work for all.

Excellent content read with enthusiasm

This book is not only information, but motivating too.

A few things I loved:

-house hacking. Buying a house and renting out rooms is a fantastic way to build wealth.

-comparing spending time to beat the stock market to selling bottles of water outside of a stadium is a great analogy.

-the case for DIYing. You don't need to outsource everything to an expert. You save money and learn.

-fancy degrees earn you more money partially because they lock you into working.

-the cost of commuting. I love that he brings up Mr. Money Moustache's article. I just wish he would have used MMM's best case scenario $.17/mile figure, where the math for commuting still stinks.

An Excellent Money Management Book

Any additional comments?

I'm an avid reader of this type of book and content. I've read GoCurryCracker, Mr. Money Mustache, The Millionaire Fastlane, I Will Teach You To Be Rich, and a bunch of other books and blogs. This one is among the absolute best. There aren't too many revolutionary ideas here, but they are packaged in a way that is easy to understand and fairly comprehensive. I also loved that the author narrated himself and he does a great job. There are several absolute gems in this book. Awesome read.

Must-read for Millennials

Insightful and direct. There is no substitute for hard work and discipline- and Scott shows that. Not only does he create a well informed plan for your finances, he clearly states the pitfalls that many people fall into. Netflix, TV, social media, financed vehicles and luxury homes keep the middle class from realizing their potential. Great read

Amazing source of information!

As an avid reader of audible(I typically listen to 40 hours of audible a week) I often find myself coming back to this book each month. The amount of information in this book is outstanding. As a young 22 year old man seeking financial freedom I have not come across any other financial book that goes into such detail on what to do and what to look at when it comes to finances. If you are seeking a phenomenal financial book that can aid you towards financial freedom check this book out!
