Our most commonly held formula for success is broken. Conventional wisdom holds that once we succeed, we’ll be happy; that once we get that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But the science reveals this formula to be backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around.

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Story
Why is it so hard to make lasting changes in our companies, in our communities, and in our own lives? The primary obstacle is a conflict that's built into our brains, say Chip and Dan Heath, authors of the critically acclaimed best seller Made to Stick. Psychologists have discovered that our minds are ruled by two different systems - the rational mind and the emotional mind - that compete for control. The rational mind wants a great beach body; the emotional mind wants that Oreo cookie.

Publisher's summary
Want to conquer your e-mail inbox once and for all? Need help getting organized and staying focused? Start listening! Millions of people already benefit from the innovative, time-saving tips that Stever Robbins dispenses each week in his number-one-ranked Get-It-Done Guy podcast. Now he’s come up with a nine-step plan to transform even the most overwhelmed into an overachiever. You will learn to:
- Beat procrastination by speed dating your tasks: You’ll face anything if it’s just for three minutes; schedule small, finite periods of time for those tasks that seem too overwhelming to get started on.
- Give your technology a performance review: Our smart phones, PDAs, and computers often make less work in one area while making much more work in others. Review your technology to make sure it’s delivering on its promise.
- Cut out the small talk: Small talk builds superficial relationships, which is a grand waste of time. Ask better questions to make instant connections that’ll benefit you for years to come.
Written in the uniquely humorous style Stever is known for, Get-It-Done Guy’s 9 Steps to Work Less and Do More will help you break the bad habits slowing you down and holding you back. Work less and do more - your free time is waiting!

Useful and fun
I already knew the author by the podcast.
It is both useful and fun.
It's not only about getting things done, it's also about focus, relationship and so on.
Some of the ideas are identical to other you can find in Tim Ferriss 4-hour book; here though they are somewhat more human, I'd edulcorated and therefore easier to adopt.

Laughter is the Best Motivation
Clutter is my nemesis, so I have a stack of books on organizing (somewhere) about a yard high. I learn, I purge, I splurge and start over. Stever's book is refreshing and real, and is not full of the same old baloney. It is a mix of some classic organizing tips but with a fresh twist, plus many new takes on our current battles with high-tech "time savers."
But I think the main reason I have given this audiobook 5 stars is that this guy is genuinely funny AND full of good information all the more memorable with his quick pace delivery. Total edutainment! I have already put several ideas in use and I seem to winning the battle, for now.

Good advice, amusingly presented
GIDG's covers a number of basic personal principles for management of time and organization, but makes them easy to listen and reflect upon Some of the tips might be new - others not. However, these coaching tips are worth revisiting from time to time. Stever Robbins makes them vivid and interesting.

Addicted to his podcasts, addicted to his book...
Now, I'm addicted to the audiobook. Stever has a very unique style when it comes to relaying information. You have to appreciate his sense of humor (which, fortunately, most office people and entrepreneurs do). I read his book, but I am so glad to also have the audiobook because Stever has a unique way of delivering information that makes you sit up, take heed--all while having fun. Come on--how many productivity books are actually FUN? He makes you WANT to be more productive because he makes the process more entertaining and simple.

Entertaining and effective book on organization
This book is full of ideas on how to organize and priortize work. True to the title, it's about accomplishing the things that really matter. The narrative by Stever Robbins is upbeat, engaging and kept me laughing. Great examples of the systems in the book make it easy to follow.
