What Audible Listeners are saying about Free to Focus

Editorial Reviews

We hear a lot about the “attention economy,” with sundry social networks and other cultural phenomena constantly vying for a share of our time. Goal-setting and productivity expert Michael Hyatt is here to tell you we’re actually in the midst of a “distraction economy,” ruled by “the tyranny of the urgent.” In this fast-paced listen, he helps you develop techniques to determine what really matters and is worthy of your attention and effort. Perhaps the best part about Free to Focus: listening to it feels a lot like a “brain-pick” advice session over coffee with an empathetic, relatable, and very knowledgeable friend.

Written for business people, not for busy mom

Written for executives and alike. Talks about white collar business jobs.
Did not take anything useful for myself. If you're a busy mom, juggling things around and trying to find sanity -- this book will tell you nothing. Does not mention family life or day to day responsibilities that much.

A solid book but not exceptionally original

I used to have a to-do list with several hundred items on it. It’s not that my life was so busy and important that I needed to have several hundred items on it, only that my dreams and ambitions seemed to multiply faster than I could complete them.

I still have the list, I just don’t look at it that much anymore. Weirdly one of the reasons I cut my list down to my top 2 or 3 items was partly due to Michael Hyatts podcast, which I later cut out of my life as well in an attempt to stay more focused.

I don’t listen to as many podcasts as I used to because I feel like a lot of them are just distractions, or that all they did was introduce me to more distractions, but I still have time for books and since I’m trying to be more focused and less diffuse, I thought a book about how to focus would be a good choice. And it was. I had just heard it all before.

If you’ve never read a book about productivity though, this as good a place to start as any, and maybe even better because it may stop you from creating a giant to-do list in the first place.

Making productivity simple

This book is an excellent collation of years of Michael Hyatt’s personal research and training under the guidance of greats like David Allen, Peter Drucker, Tim Ferriss, Cal Newport and many others. If you don’t have the time to read all the other books out there on productivity, then just read and implement this one. It will change your life as it is changing mine.

A practical guide to feel free

I have read many books on productivity. Michael Hyatt nailed down with this book. Don't need to expend more time looking for tips and tricks in Apps, tools, and books. He gave me a framework to focus on the right things and feel free. If you are looking for tools, he gives you tools, if you are looking for methodology, he gives you one. This is a practical guide for people seeking freedom to do more of what you love. He combines foundational principles and tools in this masterpiece. Period. BTW, he narrates the book with emotions and relevance to key concepts. Thanks, Michael and team.

Maybe good to read, not good for listening.

It may be a good book to read and study. But there are way too many exercises and requirements to visit the authors webpage. Listening was difficult.

Great primer, but redundant

This book is a great primer into the world of Michael Hyatt and his productivity methodology. However, readers and followers of Hyatt will already be familiar with much of this book—to the point that you’ll be wondering what new content may exist. Sadly, new content is sparse. Disappointing for such a brilliant and influential force in this space.

Best Traction on Holistic Focus

This book is not just a research project delivering great promise. This is the bearing of Michael's heart describing how he moved beyond vanity metrics of success to true success in life.

Then the book takes it even farther teaching principles that were refined through years of passing these concepts on to others. Trials bring experience. When we get wisdom and understanding as part of that experience we also gain something else in our future vision, hope. In this book Michael passes that hope to any who care to take it.

amazingly useful strategies no fluff or filler

I can't wait to get to my office to work on these strategies especially eliminating and delegating. I am also looking forward to using these concepts in my personal life as well. I highly recommend!

great content for certain contexts

Stop. Cut. Act.
Each step breaks down into multiple actions. As an audiobook, it was easy to lose track. I especially liked the idea of blocking my week and staying away from the distraction zone. Unfortunately, certain aspects of my work will not be delegated any time soon as the only full time employee of a small nonprofit.

Is a workbook but the link provided doesn't exist?

I listened over and over to the link provided for the exercise and tried every alternative that came to my mind but freetofocus.com/tools, where the resources should be, doesn't seem to exist. The writer clearly states is useless to go ahead with the book without completing the exercises ...
Not sure how to get help too!

Exceptionally Inspiring

I found out about Michael Hyatt on instagram and in turn found this audiobook. I run a small architectural practice just outside of London, England and have 3 young children! For many years the work life balance has tipped in favour of work and for me the only way to drive forward in both work and personal life was to work harder and longer on the actual work. Michael's approach outlined in this audiobook has allowed me to take a step back and get some perspective. After a short break I have returned to work with renewed vigour, carefully allocating my time and energy to those tasks I feel are a part of my long term plan. The book reminds us all that when things get stressful, the best thing to do is stop and think, not carry on working with no plan or direction. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended!

There is no better productivity system

Michael Hyatt boils down even further the principles from 'Your Best Year Ever', and it is not repeated information. He has mastered the art of having several interrelated products that all feed into each other, yet can stand alone or be read in succession without cancelling each other out. As one reviewer said: this is not 75% of promising you great stuff in the next chapter 5% content 20% telling you how great the 5% is at all! It is a great workable system that indeed does have the potential to change your life.Read by the author too.

Good overview but not for the advanced user

There are good parts of this and I like the Stop/Cut/Act framework. Maybe I would have gotten more out of it reading rather than listening, but I found it didn’t add much to existing productivity literature. If you’re already familiar with GTD and the Eisenhower matrix, you won’t find that much new here.
