decent books but could have been way better

Although the outline of the story is quite good, the execution is very subpar, for Drake to be ex Delta Force., whenever it's convenient for the author, he's a complete idiot. Things that should add up never do to Drake. he has absolutely no sense of awareness or his surroundings and he can never put two and two together until it's convenient for the author at the end, This is really too bad because it could be a really awesome book, if the author just put a little more effort into being more creative with his story. for example, in book 3 which by far is the worst of them, but they all have this same problem, three just has it the worst,. When Drake and Liz go to the Mansion of the two CEOs that they suspect may have information for them and they see the motorcycle race away from the scene (same motorcycle that raced away from the last murder scene) and near run them over, then they go up to the Mansion and they see the two dead CEOs through the window with a revolver on the ground by each of them, and after other people in their succession of going through these motions have recently been killed, including two attempts on Drake's life. his immediate thought is oh they must have committed suicide. Just because it was set up to look like a suicide, poorly I might add. It clearly wasn't the guy that left on the motorcycle that killed them! That doesnt don on Drake this ex-delta Force guy at all. in fact, it's more than a day later that he finally realizes that they were killed. how can he figure all this stuff out that he's supposed to be figuring out, and be that stupid?
This is only one of a lot of these very same kind of situations instead of the author being a little more creative and having Drake be what he really would be in real life a lot bit more skeptical an hyper aware of his surroundings, like operater would be, this make the situation a little more complicated for the author, but much more believable, instead he chooses easy everytime, the author actually would have to think and come up with it. creative way to make this work. it's always done in a way that whenever he needs Drake to be an idiot, Drake is an idiot because it makes it easy writing for him. Like I said this is just too bad because he is a decent writer. he's just not spending the time to make the story work and be believable. I like the characters in his books. the narration was done well, but these blatantly very weak situations in the story. just ruin it. I would like to finish the series but I just don't think I can go through another one that falls apart so easily.

Short on action

The author seems more interested in what the characters eat rather than adding spice to the plot.

Good overall listen

Not your typical Navy Seal of Special Forces character. It did give some good insights into how a US counter terrorist specialist would be hamstring by all the engagement rules “require” from our law makers.

Boring and Slow Moving

This book is poorly written and is totally boring. I don't know how this author is getting so many high ratings but this is about as bad as they come. I listened to the audible version and the narrator is almost as bad as the author. Time and money wasted.

Cliché and stereotypes

Perhaps it is the passage of time, but nothing in the three novels rang true. An appeal to our worst prejudices.
