Jessica Mosely is the last woman I should be thinking about.
She was my college sweetheart. The one that got away. Now she’s back—in my office, looking like sunshine in yoga pants, and asking for my legal help. She’s back, and she brought her two daughters, who are convinced the Maine Coon cat forced upon me is some kind of Disney sidekick. (He’s not. He’s Satan with whiskers.)
I’m a grumpy over-forty lawyer who lives by rules and craves routine. Jess is chaos and coconut-scented optimism. Every time she smiles, I’m twenty again—and falling harder than ever.
She drags me to yoga and ropes me into karaoke. I’d do anything for her. Even drink the pickle smoothies her daughters whip up for me. Why? Because Jess makes me want to laugh louder, live messier, and risk everything for a second chance.
The question is—can a grumpy cat dad really become the bonus daddy she and her girls deserve?

🎧 Audiobook review — duet style with full cast
📚 Interconnected standalone — part of the new Single Dads series + crossover with the Mom Coms universe
There’s nothing I love more than a series sticking the landing, and Bonus Daddy absolutely does. This is easily my favorite of the trilogy. It has heart, humor, chemistry that simmers instead of rushes, and the kind of emotional payoff that makes every tease and slow-burn moment worth it. I adored the cameos, the crossovers, and the way this story ties the entire universe together without ever losing focus on Jess and Brian. Daphne Elliot gave this series the finale it deserved warm, funny, tender, and deeply satisfying.
The Story
Brian has spent years building walls and routines just him, his rules, and his demon-disguised-as-a-cat. Until Jess, the college sweetheart he never got over, walks back into his life with two daughters and a legal problem. One shared past, one uprooted present, and suddenly Brian is doing karaoke, yoga, and drinking pickle smoothies like a man possessed… because loving Jess is the one thing he’s never stopped doing. The question becomes whether a grumpy forty-something cat dad can finally be the partner, and bonus daddy, they deserve.
What I Loved
✔️ Second chance romance that actually earns the reunion
✔️ Brian being absolutely obsessed with Jess in the softest way
✔️ Yoga, karaoke, and chaos she drags him into life and he loves every minute of it
✔️ Cameos from the Mom Coms universe (Beckett was a highlight)
✔️ Slow burn payoff that feels mature and emotional, not drawn-out
✔️ Brian defending Jess chef’s kiss moment
🎧 Narration
Performed by Stephen Dexter, Victoria Connolly, Connor Crais, Angelina Rocca, CJ Bloom, and Sean Masters
This full-cast production is nothing short of phenomenal. Every narrator brings so much warmth, personality, and emotional nuance to their character. Stephen Dexter captures Brian’s grumpy devotion perfectly, while Victoria Connolly gives Jess that blend of chaos, heart, and sunshine that makes her impossible not to root for. The supporting cast elevates the audiobook even further, especially for listeners who know the universe every cameo lands exactly as it should. This narration is a massive part of why the story hits the way it does.
Tropes & Vibes
✔️ Second chance
✔️ Grumpy x sunshine
✔️ Single dad / bonus dad
✔️ Slow burn
✔️ Found family
✔️ Over-forty romance
✔️ Interconnected standalone
✔️ Cat that acts like Satan
Final Thoughts
Bonus Daddy is the perfect finale to the Single Dads series emotionally satisfying, swoony, and full of the heart this universe has always delivered. Brian and Jess get the love story they deserved, wrapped in humor, healing, and a second chance that feels earned, not convenient. The cameos are pure joy, the pacing is spot-on, and the full-cast narration pushes the entire experience to another level. If you love a slow-burn romance where a grumpy man would move mountains for his sunshine girl, this one deserves a spot at the very top of your TBR.

Slow burn • Second chance • Grumpy/Sunshine • Full-cast audio perfection
Y’all… I’m sad. It’s over. Dad Coms was chef’s kiss, Mom Coms had Four books, and now I need Dad Coms to have at least four books, b/c three is not enough or anything else these authors write in this universe because I am feral for this collaborative romcom world.
Daphne Elliott’s Bonus Daddy wraps up the trilogy with a warm, angsty, slow burn that tiptoes between heartfelt and hilarious, with just enough spice (a comfortable 2 chili peppers) to reward your patience.
The Story
Brian is the classic overworked, all-business lawyer who hasn’t looked at his personal life in… years. Jess is the one who got away two decades ago—now reappearing in his office like a plot twist with perfect timing. She’s a mom of two girls trying to rebuild her sense of self after a brutal divorce that stripped her confidence and identity.
What I loved most is how Jess pours love, joy, and stability into her daughters’ lives even while dealing with her own fear and uncertainty. She’s terrified of choosing wrong, but the fact that she cares so deeply already proves what an incredible mom she is.
And when that one chaotic obstacle keeps wrenching Brian and Jess apart? Yeah… the slow burn definitely slow-burned. There were moments that felt a bit draggy, but because the book is such a quick read, those bits didn’t break the vibe at all.
The Universe & Found Family
This is where the magic hits.
The crossover with Mom Coms and the whole Jersey City Dad Coms found-family crew? My kryptonite.
You get:
• the apartment-building chaos
• the Boston sister who married Miller
• concert connecting to Lake Paige
• that whole “mom commune” energy
I adore how these female authors support each other and weave this shared universe together. Each book has its own flavor, but they blend into a delicious romcom tapestry that’s just fun to binge.
Brian & Jess
Their HEA was sweet, earned, and exactly right for them. Brian finally getting the family he didn’t know how much he needed? Beautiful. I was personally hoping for a bonus baby epilogue (I know, I know—long shot!), but I loved Brian’s Vermont-for-summer / NYC-for-school solution. It felt like a bow tied perfectly around their future.
Audiobook Thoughts
I CANNOT emphasize this enough:
the full-cast narration is phenomenal.
This is one of those rare cases where audio elevates the entire experience. Every POV, every found-family member, every emotional moment felt alive. If more multi-POV romcoms did full-cast audio like this? I’d never stop listening.
Final Thoughts
If you want a quick, cozy romcom series with:
• humor
• heart
• found-family goodness
• light spice
• and characters you’ll genuinely root for
…this trilogy is your next comfort binge. And Bonus Daddy is a lovely, satisfying finale.
