>"Reah, this is Commander Aris." Bel moved aside, once we were inside the spacious office, and I received my first look at the outpost Commander. He stared at me for moments as I stood before him. I was so frightened I was afraid I'd burst into tears. He was a lion of a man with thick, shoulder-length, dark gold hair swept back from his forehead. He didn't stand as his rank dictated, otherwise I think he would have dwarfed Bel, whom I thought was quite tall.

Story
Wylend Arden, Fifth-level warlock and King of Karathia for more than 20,000 years, had quite a story to tell. "It began like this," he said, his smile slightly crooked as he lifted his cup of wine to me. "I had an older brother, born to one of my father's legitimate mates. His name was Wellend and he was heir to the Karathian throne. On his 16th birthday, my father gifted him with the Heir's Ring, as was proper." After thousands of years, Wylend's niece and nephew are making a bid for the Karathian throne.

Publisher's Summary
"Thousands of Copper Ra'Ak fought throughout Veshtul, killing many as they lashed out or crushing others as they crawled along. Screaming Comesuli ran before them, desperate to escape the deadly creatures. In the distance, a dragon's roar sounded as he fought off one of the monsters. Three other dragons fought beside him; I saw them as they charged their prey - a black dragon, a silver dragon and a gold dragon. Others were fighting Ra'Ak as well; a black gryphon fought alongside a huge snow leopard. Giant birds swept the sky, screaming in anger as Ra'Ak leapt at them, attempting to sink rows of deadly teeth into feathered flesh."
Lissa has been transported 300 years into the future to save the High Demon world and the Saa Thalarr. But what she doesn't understand is that they aren't the only things she is meant to protect. The balance - and survival of all worlds - rests in her hands.

Please RE DO Audible program
Whoever decides who the Reader is : Whenever there is a story written and spoken by one gender, but most of the characters are of the other gender - hire two genders: one for each. This reader is not Jim Dale - who else can successfully pull off 59 character voices? Use TWO READERS : one for Male, one for female. it is PAINFUL listening to this series on Audible (and I have it jacked to 135% speed). it's an interesting and fun series -please RE DO the Audible program.

Blood Queen
Thank goodness! I didn’t know what to think after the way the last book ended!
There are a LOT of characters to remember. And planets in which these characters come from.
I am enjoying it but some of the names could be a little easier to remember if I am being honest.
"Merrill, Wlodek, Tony, Gavin, and the rest" – this straight from the book as you can see there are a lot and even the author is find ways around naming them all. |
I think I would like chart of everyone and how they are connected that would make things a little easier.
The ending has me wondering.
I also think all the new mates Lissa has are interesting in their own right and now that Gavin and the other remember her. I like him better he isn’t as jealous or mad all the time.
Again I am loving the narration.

An immense fantasy
What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood Queen?
The hot tub.
Any additional comments?
Lissa is back, and she isn’t happy. Not only is she stuck three hundred years in the future on a world far from Earth but she has also been mistaken for a boy. Just as she begins to find out who she is and what she has lost she finds herself back in the kitchen, using her skill around food to wow those who treat her like a slave.
This series is full of fantasy creatures, races, and skills. Nothing is too far-fetched or far into the future for Suttle and her vampire queen. I must admit that I did get a little lost with the alien races but the story kept me riveted, regardless.
Lissa’s character has held me since book one and although I don’t understand why she still covets her relationship with Gavin, I do appreciate her other relationships. The book is full of steamy scenes, none too explicit, and she is spoilt for choice but it still holds a little romance in between every hot male of every alien race wanting to bed her.
If you like a strong female lead, then this will drive you crazy because Lissa is at one moment strong and powerful and the next she is sucked back into patriotic bureaucracy with no power at all. Despite not being able to grasp who was who I really enjoyed the story and will be reading the next book in the series.

Weird
I don't tend to review audible books but those one needed to be said.
I usually love this series, it's sucked me in.
However this one was weird.
I still love the main character even with her flaws but this story felt really clunky. It felt like the author mashed 3 books into 1 because she really wanted to change the direction of the story as quickly as possible.
It's straight on from the last book, no lead in or recap at all... Really confusing unless you've just finished the last. Then it settled a little and then suddenly everyone had a million lovers. I have no problem with open relationships or multiple partners but this has the subtlety of a sledge hammer. I really think the author got lost trying to do too much in this book and nothing was done well.
I still like the series but I really hope the next book isn't as all over the place as this one was.
Narrator annoyed me in places, some of her voices are flat and slow.

Good but not perfect
This is not a 'stand-alone' book you need to have read book 5 Blood Royal as the story continues virtually from one paragraph to the next. I have read the whole series and I am now avidly devouring the audio books.
To begin with I loved the narrator Traci Odom but as the series has become more and more complex I find the lack of versatility in Traci's character voices difficult.
The early part of the book when the story develops around Niff is a little clumsy but when Lissa reappears it seems that Connie settles down again and the writing improves.
There is a major event towards the end of the book when Lissa has accepted an offer made to her by someone - heaven knows who - that we know nothing about until event occur. I found this disconcerting as it changes future storylines.
I know I have reservations regarding this book but I also know I love the series and will re-read and re-listen to this series in future.
