Publisher's summary

One day in 1957, in the third-grade classroom of St. Brigid's parochial school, an exasperated Sister Mary Lurana bent over a restless young William O'Reilly and said, "William, you are a bold, fresh piece of humanity."

Little did she know that she was, early in his career as a troublemaker, defining the essence of Bill O'Reilly and providing him with the title of his brash and entertaining issues-based memoir.

And this time it's personal. In his most intimate book yet, O'Reilly goes back in time to examine the people, places, and experiences that launched him on his journey from working-class kid to immensely influential television personality and best-selling author.

Listeners will learn how his traditional outlook was formed in the crucible of his family, his neighborhood, his church, and his schools, and how his views on America's proper role in the world emerged from covering four wars on five continents over three-plus decades as a news correspondent.

What will delight his numerous fans and surprise many others is the humor and self-deprecation with which he handles one of his core subjects: himself, and just how O'Reilly became O'Reilly.

You might like this book more than O'Reilly

O'Reilly even sounds a little bit like George Carlin in this one. This is especially true in the chapter on things he doesn't understand. Having grown up in a similar time, place and circumstance to the bloviator, I was able to identify and chuckle at some of his exploits. My guess is that he has embellished some of his experiences but don't we all when telling stories about our upbringing. Getting to know O'Reilly a little better made him a little more likable for me. The book was better than expected.

A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity

If you like Bill O'Reilly, you will love this book. He is the reader and we all know how a good reader can make or break a book. If you grew up in the fifties & sixties, went to Catholic Schools, you will find yourself grinning and sometimes laughing out loud. One of the best books I have ever listened to!

Where nostalgia and bare truth collide!

Great “read”, although I listened to it on Audible! I totally identified with his upbringing and the lessons learned. I must say I had a smile on my face the entire book with some “laugh out loud” moments. Highly recommend this entertaining book!!

Great book

The wit and wisdom of O'Reilly comes through.
Great life stories and high principals have you nodding and laughing at a trip through history. His history and his experiences are ours, and easy to relate to. He is indeed Bold and Fresh.
You have to admire his courage and high standards.

Fabulous writer!

Great stories about his neighborhood and growing up in this (kinder gentler) environment. Found myself wanting to know more. Easy to see how most conservatives could relate. Most of us had similar backgrounds. Pinging my interest all the way!

Very Funny-Inspring too.

What made the experience of listening to A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity the most enjoyable?

I suppose if you grew up in the 60's you can relate to a number of his experiences. He was certianly not coddled, had to make it on his own. So in this way it was uplifting to see someone who works at life, thinks and keeps a cool head, can make it. Very much the American Dream, I think.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed alot listening to this book. I feel sorry for the sisters who taught him in school but he got it back when he became a school teacher.

Any additional comments?

A pleasure to listen to-I will likely listen to it again, like a video you keep watching over and over.

Didn't quite make the culture divide

Never having heard of this man before but intrigued by the promos and reviews, I naively bought this book. Such outrageous and politically incorrect views would not last long in Australia - we call then 'shock jocks'!

But there was something (a bit akin to to moths response to light) that kept me listening to the bitter and almost histronic end. Maybe the unintentional insight into American culture and values???

Bill O'Reilly's narration was woeful, irritating and condescending - but then again it added insight to the whole issue of how did he get to be like he is!! Is he really the reflection of working class america he claims to be? I sincerely hope NOT!!!
