Min Dobbs knows that happily-ever-after is a fairy tale, especially with a man who asked her to dinner to win a bet. Cal Morrisey knows commitment is impossible, especially with a woman as cranky as Min Dobbs. When they say good-bye at the end of their evening, they cut their losses and agree never to see each other again.

But Fate has other plans, and it's not long before Min and Cal are dealing with a jealous ex-boyfriend, Krispy Kremes, a determined psychologist, chaos theory, a mutant cat, Chicken Marsala, and more risky propositions than either of them ever dreamed of, including the biggest gamble of all: real love.

What did you love best about Bet Me?

I loved the dialogue between the hero and the heroine. They were both very sharp and witty. The dialogue reminded me of old movies like "His Girl Friday" with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked the slightly overweight heroine and the slightly caddish (Is that a word--lol?) hero. Their journey to discovering that they liked, lusted, and then loved each other was one of the best that I've ever read in print. It seemed like it could really happen which is essential to a contemporary love story. The narrator's read was very good and I find myself turning to this book, out of the hundred+ audiobooks I own, for a repeat listen now and again. It is always nice to like the way one of your favorite books is being read.

Have you listened to any of Deanna Hurst’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first book by this narrator, but I've read many of Cruise's books. In this particular book, Cruise does something very interesting with some long, unbroken streams of internal thought in paragraphs. The narrator handled these really well and I was very impressed by her interpretation of the unique writing style in this book. I would definitely buy other books with this narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would have to give a movie tag line some thought. I really liked the hero's comments about how kissing the heroine felt like "falling into her". So it would probably be something along that line.

Any additional comments?

I am an author myself. Because of that I am very picky about what I give my time to concerning reading and listening. I am also very selective about reviewing any kind of book. When I do, it's because the book has a special value to me. This book always brings a smile to my face and gives me a laugh. I bet it would do the same for you if you like romantic comedy.
