Publisher's Summary

Back in Scotland after five years working in Australia, Kier Campbell finds himself stranded on a road in the Scottish Highlands on Christmas Eve. He needs to get to the next village urgently or freeze to death in his broken down hire car. Kier hikes down the icy road, and as he walks memories of the life he'd run from - and the love he'd abandoned in Scotland return to haunt him.

With a blizzard fast approaching, a passing motorist finds Kier and offers him a lift. He is surprised to recognize the driver. As the weather worsens, he realizes there is no way he will reach his parent's farm and so is stranded with his savior for the holidays.

Kier's one Christmas wish is to make up for the mistakes he made all those years ago, but, curiously, he finds he has an unexpected rival for his lover's affections....

FYI: This "second chance at love" story contains descriptions of gay sex and puppy play (woof!). This book comes with an additional free short story entitled The Christmas Bonus.

Funny and emotional..

Back Where He Belongs by Isobel Starling
Narrated by Gary Furlong
Five Stars
Back Where you Belong is the first book I have read/listened to by Ms. Starling, but it definitely won’t be the last. I loved the story and the growing up and coming home feel. The narrator, Gary Furlong really brought the characters to life. I love the accent. I look forward to reading/listening to more books by Isobel Starling in the future.

Good Dog, Second Chance M/M

Several years back, Keir ran from a relationship that he was ashamed to make public. That mistake left him unfulfilled and alone. On his first Christmas trip home since leaving, he is forced to face his ex lover Douglas and his roommate Mac. He realizes the consequences of his leaving and the mistake he may never get a chance to rectify.

Isobel Sterling does a grand job at conveying emotions and keeping the settings and conversation real. I found it a little sappy and predictable, but entertaining. She adds a surprise twist with little angst. I had it figured out pretty much from the start, but not everyone will.
Gary Furlong is awesome. I have heard many of his narratives and he never disappoints.

Second chances should be taken when they arise

Short, sweet love story in which a man is stranded in the Scottish Highlands on Christmas Eve. In the middle of nowhere, who comes along and rescues Kier, but his ex-boyfriend Dougie, on his way home for Christmas. Kier has regretted their breakup ever since he caused it 5 years ago. Now he has a chance to make things right. But he finds that Dougie may have someone already.....a fury someone! Dougie lets Kier think his dog is his bf until they reach his house and meets the lovable dog. But is Dougie really unattached and is he willing to forgive Kier for leaving him?

Isobel Starling creates a heartfelt story and characters in a short story with believable characters and situations, and once again, her go to narrator, Gary Furlong does an excellent job narrating the story, the voices and emotions.

Definitely worth a listen, as are all of Starling's books! Pick this up and enjoy the holidays!

Sweet Second Chance Love

This is a sweet, short story about coming home to a second chance at love. It is a story of realizing that what you most want is something you had but let slip away. Five years ago, Kier ended his relationship with Dougie, leaving home rather than accept the depth of his feelings. We get to see the past through the characters memories and the present, as they try to reconnect. For its length, this story is very good. But I think it would've benefited from being longer, allowing for a little more depth between the characters in the present.

As for the narration, Gary Furlong did a great job. His accents helped immerse me in the setting without overwhelming the actual story. He adds emotional weight to the characters, especially Kier's longing. And he helped amp up the kinky, sexy times. Overall, another great narration. I received a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet Surrender

Let me start by admitting I don't really get puppy play, but here it is more romantic and a way to rebuild connection, rather than harsh and disciplinary, so it didn't turn me off at all. I loved this story of two old friends and former lovers brought together by chance and a blizzard. There is some angst as the two have to address the separation in their past and feelings of hurt and abandonment. The addition of Mac to the picture added humor and, briefly, some jealousy to the story. There is some Dom/sub element, but it is pretty mild. I liked the ending, and I would love to see a continuation of the love rekindling between Kier and Douglas.

Gary Furlong does a wonderful job of narration, hitting all the right spots for tone, emotion, accent, and pacing.

A sweet, sexy second chance romance

Kier and Douglas are both still hurting from their last meeting five years before when Kier left Douglas for Australia in search of... he wasn't sure.

Now the two are face to face and it's obvious they still had a connection, a deep connection. How do they start to rebuild that trust again? Puppy play and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Normally, I wish a story to be longer when I'm enjoying it so much, but this one had it all. A second chance meeting, misunderstanding, longing, regaining of trust, love and a happy ending.

Gary Furlong does an amazing job bringing both characters to life. His voice really brought out the longing and intense build-ups the two men had.

A strange mixture of sweet and kinky

Kier Campbell finds himself in trouble, when his car beaks down and he is forced to find his way home walking in the worse conditions the weather may offer in Scotland; Kier has come back for the first time, after five years working in Australia. Weather conditions get worse, and Kier is starting to lose confidence in his ability to reach a safe place when he is rescued by his childhood best friend, and first lover, Douglas. Stranded together at Douglas’ cottage in the snowstorm, these two men have to decide if they can give their relationship a second chance…
This is a curious mix between holiday romance, second chance in love and puppy kink. Both characters are likeable, and the intensity of their connection is easy to feel from the start. Puppy kink is not my thing, so I feel a bit weird reading about such blatant descriptions of the intercourse between the main characters, but I must recognise it is well written (even if I do not find it specially enticing).
As for the narration, it is really good. I loved the change in tone and intonation that accompanies every singe one of the characters in this story, even the minor ones. Gary Furlong turns the story into a very enjoyable experience, as always.
Entertaining.

Sweet second chance book with a hint of kink

This was a sweet story about second chance. First I have to say is Gary Furlong was awesome, so sexy with those accents. Keira is back in Scotland to spend the holidays with his family and breaks down on the side of the road. Who happens along, Douglas the only man he ever loved. 5 years ago, they had a Dom/sub ish type relationship with Keir being the Dom. Think puppy play y’all! But a lot happens in those 5 years and it time for to be taken in hand, or by the leash :). I really enjoyed this book but would have liked more on the play side of things.

Super sweet second chance story

Super sweet second chance christmas story with great narration. A bit too short though, there were several things that I would have liked to know more detail about. Such as the fact that we were told Keir were the dominant partner in their earlier relationship, but this time around we see him only i a submissive role to Douglas. A prologue or flashback to what they were like before would have been nice.

Also I would have liked a longer conclusion. The ending felt more like a HFN than a HEA because it came about so abruptly. An epilogue further into the future would have helped me believe in them as a forever couple.

Great quick listen - LOVED the accent!

This was a pleasant surprise! A quick read/listen at under 2 hours, and I really enjoyed this sexy, kinky story. It's my first time hearing something from this narrator and I thought he did a great job with the accents - hello yummy Scottish accent! Yes, please!

Kier is back in his home town in Scotland after being away for 5 years in Australia. It's snowing and he's stranded, when who rescues him? None other than his ex-boyfriend, of course. Douglas lets Kier stay with him through the snowstorm and the two are able to reconnect.

Loved the sexy puppy play in this one, the chemistry between Kier and Douglas was great, well written! I think that getting short stories turned into audiobooks really helps with the story as far as the pace and making it seem like a longer story than it is.

I received an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, for the love of a Scotsman!

Back Where He Belongs is such a charming story of second chance love at Christmas, with a VERY kinky twist.
I adored every second of it. The narration by Gary Furlong was sublime and I got so lost in the story he was telling that the time flew. My only negative would be it was too short. I would love more from this couple from Isobel Starling and more from Gary doing their narration.

Highly recommended for M/M listeners

Just the tale to warm your cockles....

A super tale for Christmas, just the listen for a cold and snowy evening. I loved this story, It’s everything you want in a comfort listen - a second chance at true love with a healthy dose of kink! Kier and Dougie were lovely together, without the angst you usually get in second chance tales.

Gary Furlong, well, what can I say. He’s a fabulous narrator, his accents are perfect and believable and I’d listen to him talk all day....oh yeah, I have!

Bravo Isobel, a warming tale that goes down like Baileys Hot Chocolate!
