One of the best audiobooks ive heard

Well lets start off with the book being amazing, really likeable MC and the side characters are good too! I love the world building as well and it gives you a pretty good idea where everything is at and the scenery in the scenes. Now lets talk about Keith Brown, he has an amazing voice for one. he also does a really great job at doing other voices for the other characters so you can digest the dialogue better. ive heard a couple of audio books where the narrator doesnt do this and just says it normally. Give this book a listen if you enjoy litRPG/GameLit its an amazing addition to this genre!

Frank Morin has crafted a phenomenal sci-fi story with Nexus Runner, and Keith Brown’s narration brings it to life perfectly. The pacing and narrative drive are exceptional, making it easy to listen for hours and hours without ever getting bored.The battle sequences are brilliantly written—completely immersive, detailed, and graphic enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. At the same time, I highly appreciate that the book contains no smut or heavy swearing so I can listen with kids in the car or read chapters with them at home. On top of the high stakes, the story is packed with hilarious movie and pop culture references that kept me laughing throughout.Clocking in at a 22+ hours this audiobook feels like getting two books in one, offering incredible value on Audible. I am hooked on this universe and looking forward to the next book. With the 3rd book having just been released in print and the 4th currently in progress, I am thrilled that there is so much more of this epic adventure to look forward to. Highly recommended!

Mid

In a world of DCC clones, a Primal Hunter clone actually was nice to see. Unfortunately this MC is lamer than Jake in every way, and that takes allot of the magic away from the story. I hope the story branches away from primal hunter more in the next one and that this lame hero complex he has is able to pan out better, or at least feel more natural.

Good for a new series

was good for start for a new series you can tell the inspiration taken from DCC and PH looking forward to book 2

It's been a while since I hated a book as much as I did this one.

I tried to force myself to finish, but the longer it went on, the more I despised the main character.

I don't know who likes this kind of story, the kind where the protagonist is hilariously over-qualified (unrealistically, despite his young age), yet is somehow so fantastically useless. He literally goes from failure to failure, failing up into one ridiculous upgrade after another, and somehow does absolutely nothing with said gifts of value besides quivering with fear and terror non-stop.

Or forgetting to use his new abilities. CONSTANTLY.

His plans? Idiotic.

His fighting style? Keep floundering around until a lucky break goes his way.

His personality? Ugh. F***ing cringe.

The constant, embarrassing pop-culture references? Made me want to rip my ears off.

The unwanted meta-commentary? Well, I will say that the one genuine laugh this book got from me was-after having a moment where the author legit lambasts 'basement dwelling gamers'-he had his hero making out with a damsel in distress like he's Conan the barbarian. "Look, I'm not one of those losers!" - Proceeds to tick off every loser trope imaginable.

Then there's the 'game.' What a pointless, uninspired waste of space. The arbitrary rules and snarky AI 'helper' (gee, really strained the creative muscles with that one, didn't you?) made what should be a power fantasy I enjoyed through a protagonist vicariously an annoying slog (even if that would never happen given how much I despised said protagonist anyway.)

I'm genuinely astounded with how someone could write a book with a character that's so...unlikable. It's honestly impressive.

Anyway, I mostly just left this review so my future self will remember how much I hated it so I don't accidentally get the sequel in a fit of madness.
