Impossible choices. Explosive magic. Brilliant humor.

Connor is cursed....

And in Obrion, that means he must obtain patronage from a high lord prior to his 16th birthday, or face execution.

Connor turns 16 tomorrow.

Should be a simple thing until his small town is invaded. Armies clash, superhuman Petralists step out of legend, and layers of deadly intrigue shatter Connor's simple life.

If he stays, he dies.

If he leaves, people he loves will die.

Some birthdays are like that.

And there's this girl....

Set in Stone launches Connor and his friends into an epic adventure filled with humor, unique magic, and enough twists and turns to braid bacon into a noose.

I met the author at summer con in Puyallup this year. i said I would give the book a listen and I definitely enjoyed it.

The way Conor cares for both sides of the conflict

Witty author, many unexpected turns in the plot, and kept my interest from start to finish. Joshua Story’s reading for the audiobook was perfect, spot on, entertaining, and intriguing throughout. Now we just need this series to be a motion picture!!

Great read from start to finish

fair warning, you are in for a long slow burn with this book. i understand the need to build the world and such, but I'm hoping the second book is better.

so slow

The entire book only covered events over the course of a few days and only centered around a small town and it's valley. There's not much aventure to it. The concept of the magic was pretty cool - although it was extremely confusing and annoying to get snippets of how the magic works throughout the book. It's still not fully explained by the end. Hopefully book 2 will cover it. It had light-hearted humor that wasn't terrible but it wasn't my type of humor. I let out a chuckle or two but that was it. The main character was hard to relate to especially when he's confused about everything until the end.

Big magic, big adventure? Humor?

This book is amazing! It's been a favorite of mine for years, and hearing it again in this new voice adds a whole nother level of awesome. The narrator is fantastic, unerringly true to character voices, mingling the epicness of the story with the innate humor of these characters. In short? Read it!!
