A journey far from home. Becoming enslaved. Giving in to your inner monster.

Having survived the first wave of invading players, Oren now seeks to strengthen his clan. With the Breeder’s Den destroyed and most of Goblin's Gorge's resources devoted to rebuilding, his best hope lies in creating an army of golems. But for that, he needs Viridium, a rare metal that can only be obtained from hobgoblin towns, where Oren and his clan of goblins are viewed as nothing more than potential slaves. To make his way in the game, and to defeat his former guild, Oren’s ingenuity alone will not be enough. He will need to conquer his deepest fears and tap into his inner monster.

I’m totally crushed by how the story ended. There’s going to be a huge challenge to get book four to tie back in here. I’m definitely keeping my eyes on this series and I will definitely be buying it when it does.

That being said; Sound Booth Theatre has set a whole new bar for five star performance. I listen to my books while driving a semi truck for a living to help keep my mind active on long night runs through the Midwest. At first I thought maybe I was starting to get tired and pulled over for an unscheduled break and then I thought maybe it was something leaking in from a vehicle next to me. However, after that wonderful rendition from the rise of the golem I understood what all my previous audiobooks had been missing: War drums, clashing swords, blood splattering from slit throats, and cries of the vanquished. This was not your typical ear piercing high pitched level up notification; it was a new dive into an theatrical auditory performance.

Before listening, I noted many previous reviewers were upset a large majority of this book takes place in another city. While presented as a negative, I found this to be immensely enjoyable and loved discovering this history and goings on of another race within the game world. Many of the quests and adventures that take place outside the valley will have a direct impact once the players return and is worth your investment of time to listen. As book 3 is clearly presented as an end to the entire series, I will say I was both surprised and yet not so much by this ending. Some aspects of the series end were easily predicted while others were a pleasant and clever twist of events. Overall score for book and series - 5 stars.

A worthy (if unexpected) ending

The ending was pretty unsatisfying. It felt very rushed and no closure was given. If this isn't the last book I'll edit my review, but again ending was unsatisfying.

Would be a 5 out of 5

like some of the negative reviews said, the audio lost its smoothness with the added extra effects. I listen to audio while driving so it can get hard to let the story fade into the background while focusing on my surroundings. like trying to split my attention between myself and my shadow clone...its jarring. that being said, the change of pace is by no means a deal breaker for a solid story that had me gripping the steering wheel and shouting at the characters as much as the drivers on the road. it's a lot of fun and I'll be getting the 4th audio book when it comes out. until then, my commute is going to be a bit lonely without a snarky purple VI and a goblin overlord. hail annihilator.

Could lose the extra effects but still worth it
