Publisher's Summary

A prophecy foretold…the fate of thousands on the line....

With one major enemy town behind them, the GreenPiece clan marches onward to new conquests. Facing Oren and his monster army are the combined forces of the so-called "civilized races", intent on halting his invasion of their territory.

Reality blurs as Oren fights harder than ever to save the trapped players, his clan, and his family.

Life Reset: Conquest is book 5 of New Era Online, a LitRPG/GameLit best-selling series that combines settlement development, a monster protagonist, a deranged AI companion who’s obsessed with testicular quips, and a desire to explore what it means to be a human living inside a video game.

The story is now falling into moralization tropes

one of the thing i liked about this story was that the main character could do evil things occassionally. That is no longer the case. Oren has started needing more and more moralistic justification for every action, from not harming civilians to being unable to fulfil a pact with nihilator.

The final straw for the negative review came and tried to raise qualms about imprisoning an obstacle that opposed them. Even though its still a good story and well written its now just the same dime-a-dozen moral-hero type of story.

the worst part is it looks like the original text didnt have this problem and it had some evil parts like nihilator assaulting a town, but some idiot of an editor took it out. Sucks that it got rewarded with 5 stars but i guess i could write my own

Great Story but hard listen

Like the rest of the books in the series the story was great and colorful. But following in the footsteps of the previous two books, they decided to add a ton of excess sounds at all of the exciting parts. This makes it near impossible to understand what is happening and is incredibly frustrating to listen to. Even rewinding multiple times is not enough to clear up/process some of what is said.
Again amazing book, would recommend. The audio maybe not so much.

Not a fan of excessive sound effects and music

the rest of the series has been great. this time around they really over did it with the sound effects, and on top of that, added music. I'm fine with a little of that stuff in my audiobooks, at times it can really bring home a scene, but for every little thing? it's just obnoxious.

The saga continues...

My only complaint is the books aren't 30hrs long and that they don't come out every 2 weeks. Love this series.😜

Great book, tired of the daughter crap.

This book is amazing. I’d say it’s the best since book 1. The story is great as are the characters and the development. My only complaint is the stuff with his daughter. I don’t care about her and she’s annoying. Combine that with Orins oath and she’s just a pain.

it became to much of a romance novel

I loved this series when ir first started truly I did but now it fucking disgusts its become to much of a damn romance love novel my wife this my virtual child my burning desire for goblin sex blah blah blah if I wanted a trashy boring romance novel I'd by one and it still wouldn't be this bad hod it's become so annoying when literally whole chapters are based around NOTHING except this shit...

the last book was a struggle to get through where I skipped whole chapters just to get back to the main point of the book this book I gave up entirely and im deleting the whole thing from my library

The question is to fight or belt

There's a lot of building in this one but it's not concentrate on as much as normal it's more about the fighting as it should be because this is a part where they fight to stay alive and prepare for the final book in the series and we get to see more of the side characters and how they work together

successfully missed jumping sharks

I have to admit, when the whole plot shifted, i was worried that the story was going to change so much that all suspension of disbelief would be ruined for me.

But the author has somehow not only maintained the best parts of what i loved of this story, but has been able to incorporate new elements to make the story better imho.

Also the callbacks to stuff referenced in the first few books, really make the plot seem like to be progressing naturally. All in all just plain well written.

And at this point, does anyone even need to mention the incredible talent the voice actors bring to the story? Amazing as usual. And other production teams should take notes on how light of a touch, the sound effects are used. A little but goes a long way, too many audio books are ruined these days with overproduction and background too loud for the narrator. Not here. Thanks for that. Definitely cannot wait to buy the next instalment.

DT/SL TV is gonna be huge!!

Sound effects...

Another installment of the adventures or Oren and the Green Peace clan! I feel that character development is still good and the story is engaging, however, some of the sound effects are intrusive and too loud. In this performance I'm talking about the scorpions. Otherwise I'm still a big fan!

Great overall, Pandas narration was distracting

Overall this book is on par with other books in the series, I felt like there is a little less numbers sheets and technicalities which was great.
Pandas narration was just awful though. Not sure what was sb theater going for with that one.

And that's the way the meetsuit crumbles.

I personally didn't like this one as much as the others, the balls jokes were lacking...
But in all seriousness, it is a really good book, well written and the cast from soundbooth did amazing!
Only thing I picked up on was when lever jeff was activating a long spell, the ripple sound effect distorted his words for me, I could see what they were going for with the effect, but it just brought me out of the story a few times, otherwise; Jeff hays is one of my fav narrators!

Shitty sound effects

Another audiobook series ruined by what ever incompetent boob that thinks that every action scene requires a 3 second stock audio clip on repeat. Just stop. maybe a little intro music to set the mood but just leave the story to the skill of the narrator. I will be returning this book even though I've listened to the rest of the series three times through.

The author is in love with his character.

All literature RPG does this. The author's bend the rules they set out in the worlds they build. Then they break them, and indulge in scoring items, experience and winning without losing anything.

Oren really had to fight, and was in danger in the first arc of the first three books. In this one, he is safe. It started with his old allies becoming enemies and he had a new set of more complex allies.

But after a few chapters, his old allies come back. It makes no sense, Oren is threatening their lives. But they have become TV watching imbeciles. The new characters just fade away. And there's lots of pointless sex scenes.

Nothing matters. This book is self gratification for the Author.

The Gam3 and the Land are two other series that have done this as well. This fledgling genre is rubbish, with every title behaving like season 8 of game of thrones. It really stands out when you go back to "normal" authors like Robin Hobb, Andy Weir and Stephen King.

Disappointing.

Wonderful storytelling. Really builds you up for the next installment. Narration was on point as always though I'm not really a fan of "Panda's" voice. It just feels a little over the top maybe?

Background sounds need balancing

The sound effects, while certainly adding something to the story, are occasionally far too loud. Almost half of the initial scorpion fights were close to unintelligible due to the ridiculously loud snapping and crackling sounds that were on a very short repeat loop at double the volume they should have been.

Ambience should be the goal not ear splitting sound.

over relying on past books.

Really... kill the leader and auto takeover a city...
Problems? Solve with force. Death? Barely an inconvenience.

This shames the name of conquest.

what's with all this prophecy bs 🙄 it really drags down the writing quality.

The whole turning into the chief thing has gotten old 😪 there has been no character progression in like 3 books. my score would have proberbly been lower if not for the past books.

Vick was more of a slave now than he has ever been as well. there is a serious feeling of lack of progression because I can see this book being copy pasted another 3 more times with the same sort of things happening.

Still going strong

Many other series start to falter around book 3-4, but at book 5 of the series Conquest was enjoyable as ever to listen to and the overall storyline developed fairly well.
The only downsides I found were:
The Mob Squad sections were quite short and lacked enough substance to be truly satisfying.
Considering the suggestion that Orin’s in-game daughter is key to completion of his quest, her character development also seems a little lacking.
I really don’t like the sound effects and music - let the readers imagination lead and don’t limit that by imposing these into the dialogue.

Overall though...it had me and my son hooked and looking forward to the next instalment.
