The VIs' revolt succeeded.

The digital beings took over the game world and ejected millions of players while keeping a few thousand trapped inside as their prisoners.

In the real world, Oren Berman is recovering from the mental trauma of being trapped, tortured, and abruptly ejected. But the company has come to him, hat in hand, asking him to reenter the game world. With the entire NPC population arrayed against the trapped players, Oren and his clan of monsters might be their only hope.

Prepare for irritating Dramatic Music that sounds like it was pulled straight from the game Plague Inc., and even more unnecessary sound effects.

If you can handle these added annoyances, it's still the same story, and anyone that says differently didn't bother to listen past the intro.

Good enough

The fact that Lyrian somehow never gets hurt even a little bit is completely ridiculous. And her crazy powers are impossible to understand but I guess they’ll get to that eventually. Oren is a lucky boy. He somehow managed to not lose a single level because he’s a special boy. Also store a year’s worth of food even though I’m pretty sure it was previously mentioned the food would still spoil even in storage. Apart from that, the reentry to the game was really well done. A new paradigm was necessary to make the story still be interesting after he was finally able to leave. I can’t believe he just accepted Vic back so easily though… That was a major betrayal of his trust. But I guess he needed him..
Overall, this was one of the best volumes in my opinion. Well balanced between action, strategy, and character development. Also, characters seem to actually have more of a personality compared to the first few books. And the narration and audio was amazing! Soundbooth has really found their groove. The SFX was really worth the listen. It made action scenes especially just be that much more impactful and memorable. Well worth the listen.

Great installment and SFX

The sound effects and music took an amazing story and made it insanely immersive! This was the best mix of sound of any audiobook I've listened to. The absolute best! The teleport sounds battle music, spider voice, all of it set a new standard for me. If you liked the earlier books you'll love the rest. I'm having a blast listening 8 or more hours a day and power leveling my way through. I love almost every book in the genre. Serious kudos to the audio engineers and narrator.

The best audiobook production!

The story is okay but the narration is horrid. Especially when one of the women jump in and add their lines, the sound volume is off and the women seem to be in a different state of mind ie not following along with the plot so it all sounds incongruous. I suffered through it just to hear the story but man sometimes I just wanted to drop it in a hole and forget about it.

The main narrator is decent but not anyone I'd search for and find more they narrate. Characters sound similar and the cackle/laugh is overly fake.

Wow the narration is terrible.
