Standout series

I was hoping to like this series, but I ended up loving it. Incredibly good world building, characters, and story. Each book maintains the same level of excellence.

Give it a listen. You won’t regret it.

Excellent series!!!

Really enjoyed this one, sometime it gets a little dark, but love the main character and it’s a unique approach to this genre, can’t wait to see what happens next!!

Quality characters

I do enjoy the slow growth of the lead character but appreciate that we get to follow his group of friends with some characters popping in and out.

Solid, complete story arc for book 3.

That a series like this one has a solid start and finish to its third book is really good.

Stands out of the genre

Amazing narration as usual, solid progression not so much that it feels like there’s no real struggle, but not so little that it feels like the author got lost.

This is one of the newer series that really stands out in this genre!

Another wonderful book. It all comes together so well at the end. A great mystery.

The Gailen accent is pure aural torture

The rest of the book is just fine, but the Gailen accent used in the Epilogue is so bad it sounds like a record playing in reverse. If the character Gailen has any dialogue in the next book please choose a different accent. I get not wanting a scottish or english accent but literally anything is better than what I just heard. It's dealbreaker bad.

Book had a start middle end. great wrap up, story felt like it progressed. Too often books just feel like filler, but this gave a great story but still set the scene for what's to come to you can be excited for the next book. This whole series is great and I highly recommend all the books. Great work.

Best series I’ve heard in a while

This series is so good and the narrator is awesome. I’m super bummed there isn’t another one yet. Looking forward to book 4!

Great but flawed.

The books is written quite well but the author choices often leave me scratching my head. -cringey Stockholm sydrome
-overly focused on witches. The MC just isekai'd to this unknown world and hadn't seen anything beyond the countryside. Now you're telling me this moderner is going to fight in this war? Fine.
-song writing is not this author's strong point. Neither is poetry. Make it stop 😆
-The narrator fails to read the room. Brin's voice just sounds deadpan, depressing, and often doesn't reflect the text written. Also be careful of random fake accents. A name like Lisa doesn't sound like that imo.
-the forced relationship between the torture lady and mc is crazy. Worse with the cliched cringey speech Brin made at the end.

the ending was a whole lot of nothing. Brin's section ends with him in fear and this other character nobody cares about is sending an invitation. And now we're expecting the mc to join the army.

My criticism aside, good book. A critique isn't always a 1 star people. I may buy the next.
