Like many Evangelical Christians, Kevin grew up believing that being gay was a sin punishable by hell and social ex-communication. After 12 years of ex-gay therapy resulting in two suicide attempts, Kevin realized that God never would ask them to give up who they were, but rather God invited Kevin deeper into the heart of Love, deeper into who they always were meant to be. They realized that Love doesn't have to hurt, and that God was much bigger than anticipated.

Through personal stories, fresh takes on old Bible stories, and employing trusted theological devices, Bad Theology Kills shows us not only can we craft new theologies that can redeem our faith, but we can save lives. Bad theology is killing all of us. And a better way is possible.

My first book of the year!! As someone who was hurt deeply by the church, this book was everything I needed to hear on my spiritual journey. It’s funny, emotional, informative, personal, healing, and captivating. I was serving and on staff as a worship leader in a mega church for years, but when I escaped an abusive ex, my church abandoned me when I went to them for help. I “deconstructed” my faith, rediscovering myself and reclaiming my life. It was difficult and lonely — healing from the hurt of losing an entire community I considered family as I formed a new one and learning new ways of thinking around toxic ideologies I once sang about. In that, I also came out publicly as bisexual and started exploring my sexuality, while releasing the shame and pain that I grew up with, but with little guidance. Kevin challenges your belief systems, answers questions, but it reads like you’re talking with a good friend. Thank you for all the love and hard work you’ve poured into this book, kevin! I have read Bad Theology Kills before but with Kevin narrating their work, this message of hope absolutely leaps off the page. Kevin writes and speaks with incredible heart and knowledge. This audiobook is a comfort and is served so well by being read by the author.
