Despite discovering civilization and making allies, his newfound home was sadly short-lived, leaving the survivors to pick up the pieces and make for greener pastures. Having won the respect of the locals via a heroic almost-sacrifice, Rob travels with them, recognizing the importance of having people around to watch your back.

After all, if he's learned one thing since arriving to this strange new world inhabited by monstrosities and ruled by levels, stats, progression, and bizarre video game logic, it's that death is lurking around every corner.

A botched meeting with the Elven ruler's soldiers leads to thousands of people, Rob included, fleeing to the northern wastelands. Ambushes from monsters and men are the least of his worries—dealing with the system's assaults on his mind and the occasional eldritch abomination are far worse. As Rob slowly loses himself, fighting to stay as a person his loved ones back on Earth would recognize, he realizes that surviving just for the sake of seeing the next day isn't going to be enough to keep him sane. He and his friends will need to kindle their spirits, band together, and learn to support each other both physically and mentally.

By all rights, they'll perish. They're the underdogs, and world history isn't kind to those. Every inspiring legend of success is built on the graves of a thousand defeats. Society, the system, and the very world itself are against them. In the face of odds like that, what can they possibly do?

Simple: survive.

love niel helligars. always does a great performance. I love a narrator that can portray many characters

Fantastic

It has been awhile since I’ve enjoyed an Isekai as much as this. While I feel like Kira’s character development is a bit slow, the characters give a depth to everything that proceeds in their on-goings. The world building is fantastic and I’m very excited for the next installment.

Good series so far

I really like the story and world building. The hate the world has for humans makes it interesting. I didn't like the constant self pity though. it's almost too much every time Rob goes on an emotional tangent. The Mc's maturity level is also strange. half the time he seems like a kid which is understandable as he's 18 or 19, but then he has these moments where he talks like he's a guy in his late 20s early 30s like when he talks about how the other elves in his party are just kids. overall I like the story, every battle feels like it has meaning and there's always a possibility of people dying. if you feel stressed out reading a fight scene then it's a good fight.

A great follownup from book 1

Great follow up from book one. Some real character growth being done with fun and engaging story telling. Sometimes serious/sad and other times hilariously funny

One thing i find a little annoying is the frequent times the MC becomes to emotionely dmg back and forth on the mental panic/sadness and moral troubles get played up a lot but it is improving in a more mature/stable direction with the help of friends/allies.

If you liked sheild hero

This is a isekai that feels so real. the man character is never like oh so cool I have to survive ever day and never know what has happened to my friends and family. Oh everyone hates me and wants me dead. It does have so funny moments that he uses to break up the sad train.

Codependancy

I think the author needs some therapy and a coda group before they write anymore stories.

This book is so chock-full of the stuff and it’s pretty overbearing.

whiny but awesome

There are times when the goal of the author is to make a world that is dark. This comes equipped with characters that go through very depressing scenarios. I love Neil Neil as a narrator. I genuinely laughed or cried listening to this. It is very well done. There is definitely some merit however to people that say this book is whiny. It's a big part of the book for characters to be upset about pretty much everything which is realistic but many folks listen to books to escape realism. We don't necessarily want a realistic character that would crumble that would crumble emotionally every time they go through something. We want someone stronger than us because this is a fantasy world. It is truly an enjoyable book and I would recommend it just press through some of the crybaby scenes and You will not regret it. Also it can be annoying when a character dumps all of his stats into one item but it does actually Pan out in this book. It's not what any of us would do but it winds up working out. Give it a shot trust me.

just as good as the first. can't get enough and can't wait for the 3rd book
