She becomes a Lost Soul. Her core begins to dwindle, but she does not abandon her goal.

I enjoyed this story and the narration was pretty good. Sometimes the chapters dragged a bit and the action was infrequent. But I really like Tian's history, her way of fighting, and the fact that she is a cultivator fighting aliens and robots in a fantasy world. I look forward to the sequel.

Slow at times, but fun overall

This story takes sort-of a similar approach as The Dao of Magic: failed ascension and knocked into another realm with a different system. I really like how the story blended the two systems and made the original cultivation and skills a limited resource. This story had lots of twists and turns, and I really enjoyed the mystery of it all. I like the premise of these sorts of stories where you can basically have a bunch of a different worlds and systems loosely connected over many different books. The writing was excellent, and I listened to the the book pretty much straight through, I will definitely be getting the next book in the series when it comes out. As always, Emily Woo Zeller does a fantastic job with the narration and really enhances the story.

Fun, different take on cultivation

That's ultimately the most important takeaway that I have here - the characters in this book have very little distinct personalities beyond a single concept, I've realized that the whole concept is that they are narrative components.

VA Lewis seems to be an author who is writing at furious speed, coming up with diferent characters and story lines. This one... my interest actually dropped as I continued listening. I've liked other series somewhat better.

It was written quickly and in the concept of fairy tale, and it shows... the main character has introspection and wonder, but it's not an especially deep self improvmeent journey. Other characters have single note personalities. The world has not been described. The villain has mixed motivations, but it's not explored.

There are dozens, hundreds of books in this genre that give more to the reader / listener. This one is fine for what it is - pick it up if you want some light background listening.

Written like a Fairy Tale Narrative
