Publisher's summary

Halloween is only fun when the dead are just pretending....

Paislee Grimes’s quaint Connecticut town doesn’t mess around when it comes to holidays - and her family takes Halloween even more seriously than most.

But this year, something is very wrong on their once-quiet streets. Bodies are piling up, and Paislee is desperate to piece together clues that point to a killer with a connection to a recent not-quite-solved murder - and a connection to Paislee herself.

Time is running out as the killer drags more Pine Grove residents into a twisted game, and the cryptic pieces of this dark puzzle seem to be circling closer and closer to Paislee and her friends.

But no one threatens the town Paislee loves and gets away with it - and she and her friends won’t rest until the corpses are purely decorative.

This time, it’s personal.

Great read!

snarky, mysteries, family-dynamics, friendship, ya-only-means-no-gratuitous-erotica, small-business, small-town, angst

I don't think this stands alone, but it is great! It seems so eerie, but things can be explained in a twisted and murderous way. First you have to know that mom is a covert witch and runs the family funeral home and dad is the ME. So far, so weird. That also translates into the expected family 18th birthday present----grave plot complete with headstone!
This time while Paislee is doing all the Halloween activities the town indulges in, it becomes clear that a murderer is targeting certain students for death, but this is no ghost. Great read!
Carrie Coello has all the characters and their emotions very well done.

Such a cute mystery in a small town

I loved this book! There is something strange happening in Pine Grove. Someone seems to be targeting Paislee and she is determined to find out who it is. With the help of her new friend Gage, sets out to save the town.

I loved seeing Paislee and Gage get closer. Their bond is adorable and I love it. I am excited to read the next book! I need to know who is targeting Paislee and who DL is!

The narration is amazing! Again Carrie Coello does such an amazing job with Paislee's voice.

Quirky Enjoyable YA

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the second book in the Bones and Drones series. It is not a standalone and it does have a cliffhanger ending. This book is a continuation of book 1 and if you do not start there, you will be lost. The author does provide a few quick summaries of events from book 1 but not enough that a reader will be able to just dive in at this point.

This is a YA book and the MC character Paislee is solving a murder mystery - and the adults are really not that involved. I really like Paislee's quirky character and she is into a lot of odd things for a young girl [forensic facial reconstruction and historical research]. Paislee's family dynamic is fun and realistic. Plus there is some nice humor sprinkled throughout.

The narrator, Carrie Coello, is the same throughout the series and does a nice job. There were a few repeat phrases or sentences which were not caught during quality control.

Death by cup cakes, a delicious way to go!

Although the previous episode reveals a murderer, they also revealed that were being paid by someone. That person is manipulating things that are making the players in the local high school to turn up appearing dead.
There's more to that situation, but the best idea is to read the author's rendition of the tale, rather than my inadequate synapses.

Brooms and Tombs

A bit unbelievable that high school students would be taking the lead on solving the cases, and the adults don’t seem to be very involved. Ignore that fact and you have a decent cozy mystery.

Paislee seems to be the target as the bodies pile up and the clues point her way. K. A. Goodsell does a great job of keeping you guessing with the twists and turns.

Overall, Carrie Coello does a decent job with the narration. Her performance fits with how I imagined the characters sounding.

A Great Listen

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review. Paislee is plagued with two unsolved mystery and it's almost Halloween. She literal stumbles on a body that has been placed on her own burial plot. Now she has three mysteries to solve before anymore of her classmates are killed. Is she getting a little stressed, maybe. A highly entertaining mystery with quirky characters and an interesting plot with lots of twists to keep you guessing until the very end. I listened to it in one sitting, it's very entertaining.

Incomplete and too unbelievable

The characters are delightful and fun to follow, but this story is incomplete. It's also a little too unbelievable for my taste.

Carrie Coello's narration is outstanding, except her consistent mispronunciation of the word "theater" distracts me every time I hear it.

I hope I have the opportunity to review the remainder of this story.
