Awesome Start to A New Series!!!

I have listened to various LitRPG books in the past year. The majority are fantastic and there's a handful that just suck and I sometimes regret getting those books. This is not one of them; this book is definitely an awesome start to a new LitRPG series.

The ability to play an MMORPG while sleeping is awesome and would be freaking bad ass if it were a reality. The characters in this book are pretty awesome, but my favorite would be Karan; especially when he was able to take revenge on Ignus. The character progression is spot on, but I would love to hear some SFX when leveling up or accessing stats and skills to separate it from the conversations.

There were a couple of characters I had a hard time differentiating during conversations because the narrator's voice was pretty similar with the characters. Other than that, the story line and narration was awesome and I'm happy to have listened to this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Loved it!

An amazing story of entering into a game and the main character decides to be a necromancer. What makes this story so great is the interaction with the characters and the narrator giving them a life of their own. There are gnomes, elves, wolves, crazy rabbits, manticores, thieves, and many more!

Action and humor are a constant in this engaging tale. It kept me listening and wanting more! I am looking forward to the second book already!

Fun LitRPG

A new fun entry in the LitRPG genre. Nothing world-breaking or brand new; however, just a fun, enjoyable adventure! The primary characters and his companions were fun and varied from some of the normal RPG classes. Story was well written and narration was really good. Overall... just a fun listen!
I received a sample copy of this book in exchange for my fair, and honest, review. However, just because I received this book for free, does not mean that I am simply giving it a positive review, the book was indeed tremendously fun, and I recommend it highly. I will be picking up book to as soon as it is released, and using my own credits to get it!

Good Fun

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a review, my review is unbiased

This is a non-crunch gamelit full immersion mmorpg story

This book was lots of fun, most of it had to do with the character dynamics. The dialogue and puns were amusing and there was a lot of camaraderie and action adventure.

The world of hunters dream so far is pretty generic, and the classes we have seen are as well. There is a bit of logged off real world stuff going on but it so far has had no relevance to the story, and I don't think that it's going to.

The narration is solid, characterization spot on, pacing is good

Overall the book is great but it's not deep, it won't turn out to be a masterpiece or super creative but it has great personality

Great story for a bit of fun

This was a fun, easy listen that I enjoyed quite a bit. It's not a serious story or very deep but that's OK. Sometimes you just want to listen to something for fun. This book is more GameLIT than LitRPG. By that I mean that it is very clearly a group of people playing a VRRPG game. Very little outside the game is covered.

The characters were realistic, enjoyable, and often funny. No moronic MC in this story thankfully. Even the villain was likable in a villainous sort of way.

The stat updates were not overly intrusive and were worked into the story in a logical manner. The way the game works while people are sleeping is quite inventive and sounds like it would be a great use for the third of our lives that we spend asleep.

The narrator did a good job with the voices. Each were clear and distinct.

Robin Graves!

Great story and narration!

Robin just got the latest virtual game - one that uses cutting edge technology! Setting out on the path of the necromancer, he quickly makes friends and enemies while saving a goblin town from some high and mighty players. As things escalate Robin must decide what he will stand for!

Loved the VR tech - I found the idea a lot more plausible than other methods! The story was great too!

I can't wait for the next book to come out!

On the edge of greatness

I actually finished listening a number of days ago but have been debating my review. This is one of those books that really makes me wish audible allowed half stars because I would have given the story a 3.5. Now honestly I would have loved to have give this one 5 stars across the boards, but one thing stopped that. Let me first say that J.R. Davis did a great job. It's a fun story and he clearly has a great grasp of the gaming mechanics that are essential for a LitRPG book to be satisfying. The weapons, the various skills, the leveling...all of that is here, and done quite well. I also have to say for the most part I really liked the characters. So what's my problem? Well it comes down to one thing...tension...there didn't seem to be anything at stake for our hero. There are certain tropes you come to expect from LitRPGs. Not all of them have people trapped in virtual world, but there is always some very real loss that can come from what happens in the virtual world. That didn't seem to be the case here. If he were to die in the game he wouldn't die for real, his character wouldn't be erased...nothing. As we saw with some of the characters, if you die in the game you just respawn back in town. So where is the risk? The tension? What you end up with is a story about a guy playing a video game. An enjoyable story, but still it never really felt like anything was ever on the line for our hero. Towards the very end there seems to be hints that things are more than they seem and maybe we'll learn more in book 2, but as for this book the tension and payoff just wasn't there. I did enjoy the book quite a bit and would definitely like to see what comes next. I just want there to be real repercussions for our hero should he fail. Steve Campbell does a fantastic job with the narration and I'll definitely have to check out more of this work in the future. Epic LitRPG!!

This was hands down one of the best written LitRPG stories I’ve listened to in awhile! All the characters are awesome, and thanks to the flawless performance by Steve Campbell, they are all easy to fall in love with....or hate to the fullest extent lol such an amazing story, I can’t wait for the next one!

Good with quirks.

Written
I love the style and the humorous puns
I’m curious about why his group seems very under leveled compared to everyone that started the same day.
One thing I love is it isn’t bogged down with constant stats and over information on every level gained.
Not really a negative but it threw me off when I was expecting the game to be an MMO because this does not “play” like one, more like a D&D campaign which is good, just feels odd and makes you question things when thought of as an MMO.
Audio
I love the narrators voice but and it’s a big one there are some serious audio problems, it seems like some spots were re-recorded but in a tin can, it really pulls you out of the moment.

Overall it has some quirks but if you love some good puns and like some role playing and leveling mechanics in your stories give this a shot and you might find a new series to love!
