Story
Many millennia ago, humans, including us, were seeded on 15 worlds by an alien race, the Airlia. We believe we evolved, but the reality is we were bred as cannon fodder for the Airlia’s interstellar war against the Swarm, a viral race whose only mission appears to be the obliteration of sentient life wherever encountered. On some worlds humans realized the truth about their origins, uncovered their hidden alien overlords, and rebelled.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Publisher's Summary
A book by New York Times best-selling author Bob Mayer, writing as Robert Doherty (author of the best-selling Area 51 series). Over 1,000,000 copies sold! Amazon Hot 100 in print. Amazon Top 10 in Thriller.
What if the Shadow that destroyed Atlantis 10,000 years ago, comes back to threaten our present world?
A war beyond time. An enemy beyond space. A thriller beyond your wildest dreams. Three areas on the Earth's surface defy explanation: the Bermuda Triangle, the Devil's Sea of Japan, and a small region of Cambodia. Inside these realms, planes have disappeared, ships have vanished, and, in Cambodia, an entire civilization has been lost leaving behind Angkor Wat.
In 1945, Training Flight 19 disappears in the Bermuda Triangle.
In 1963, the USS Thresher, a nuclear submarine, is lost under unusual circumstances, part of a secret government investigation into mysterious gates. Near the end of of the Vietnam War, Green Beret Eric Dane led a team of operatives deep into Cambodia and encountered a strange fog near the legendary city of Angkor Kol Ker. His entire team disappears, attacked by strange creatures out of the fog. Only Dane survives to return.
Now a plane goes down. In the same area Dane lost his team. He's called back. To find out who is the darkness behind these gates to our planet. What does this Shadow force want? It is a threat that will take on the world's greatest military forces and defeat them. A power that will overwhelm our science and technology. A merciless enemy that will lead Dane -and the whole planet - into the final desperate battle for survival.
If you enjoyed Lost, you'll love this book and be amazed at the similarities in concept (although this book was originally published before Lost).

Great story, horrible reading
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Not in content
What was one of the most memorable moments of Atlantis?
The science was realistic when referenced and meshed well in timeline and fused well with the odd phenomenon addressed.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Really terrible. Perhaps the reader should stick to lectures or the like.
Did Atlantis inspire you to do anything?
Buy the series.

Mayer does it again, sadly the narrator doesn't
Mayer keeps surprising me with another outstanding series. This is the perfect sibling series to Area 51. Different enough to make the work compelling and the story belts along.
Sadly the reading is let down by terrible narration. Hayes reads the story at a lethargic pace with no emphasis on urgency regardless of how chaotic the scene for the protagonists. All the strong female characters come across like little girls. It's painful at times.
Mayer is outstanding and I will push through the series regardless of the narration.

Great story, terrible reader
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not on audio, get it in print. Awesome story, bad reader.
What did you like best about this story?
Realistic. Good science.
What didn’t you like about J. C. Hayes’s performance?
The worst I've heard. Runs sentences together. No pause when plot changes location. Very hard to follow.
Do you think Atlantis needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It already does, but I doubt I will listen to it because of the reader. I'll go buy the paperback.

Great story... Poor narration...
Would you consider the audio edition of Atlantis to be better than the print version?
N/A
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Yes... Narration was flat & mono-toned... All characters sounded the same... Narrator did not have any inflection in his voice... And his accents were pretty sloppy.. He'd start off with his version of an Australian accent and drop it mid sentence.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No

The story is exciting and that is what will will get you thru this audio book...

A great story with a unique premise
If you could sum up Atlantis in three words, what would they be?
Good opening premise
What did you like best about this story?
Linking the past to the future with the mystery of an alien presence
How could the performance have been better?
More than one monotone voice to help distinguish characters and inject emotion/feeling into the story.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The earth faces an Armageddon all but a precious few know exist. Can we understand and survive the Atlantis gate?
Any additional comments?
A fun and unique storyline that will leave you wondering how the mystery will end.

Great story with narration troubles
What made the experience of listening to Atlantis the most enjoyable?
Another fine story by Bob Mayer. He has created a gripping, fast-paced, fascinating tale. Thank you!
What did you like best about this story?
Realistic characters, all larger-than-life and full of surprises.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrator did a decent job, but his repeated mispronunciation of Bermuda kept pushing me out of the fictive dream of the story. I've never heard an English speaker pronounce the place other than as Ber-myuda. The narrator consistently called it Ber-mooda, dozens of times. His pronunciation of Laos was also strange to my ears. Overall, I enjoyed his voice and regional American accent, but those two words diminished my enjoyment of this recording.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A shadow from the most distant past.

Fun action story with a science fiction twist
Purchased the e-book and the Whispersync audio version, which I listened to while commuting to work. Thoroughly enjoyable, fast paced action with some science fiction mixed in. Enjoyed this very much and found the concept intriguing, especially since I live in Florida and have grown up hearing of many incidents involving the Bermuda Triangle. I have enjoyed Bob Mayer’s other military book offerings and thought this might be interesting and it was. The gates and potential for serial stories made me think of Star Gate, both the movie and the TV series, but on another level.

Think Lost when thinking about listening to this!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you like Mythology, SyFy, History, and Miliatary all rolled into one. Then this a good book for you!
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
Not a big J.C. Hayes fan. Doesn't do a good job making his characters voices different. Struggles with females.
Any additional comments?
Bob Mayer, Robert Doherty, whatever he wants call himself is one of my favorite authors, so I might be a little biased!

Area 51 magic is not there & baaad narration
i'm not sure what is missing from the story itself, but even if you ignore the horrible narrator, this book isn't as interesting as the area 51 books. i wasn't a fan of the characters and the mystery of what was going on wasn't something i cared to learn more about.
mayer usually summarizes what happened in previous books, so perhaps start on book 4 where the narrator is decent.

Great Story
Would you listen to Atlantis again? Why?
Yes, the story is very interesting.
What other book might you compare Atlantis to and why?
Nothing I've listened too.
Did J. C. Hayes do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Hayes did an ok job, I didn't feel he differentiated enough between the characters at times.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I enjoyed the conclusion and the low tech way an high tech enemy was defeated.
Any additional comments?
I'll continue with the other books. It is a new spin on the Atlantis story that is very appealing.

As above
As the earlier review mentions, shocking narration.
Sounded like a drumk tramp on meth, reading a book into a microphone, from the bottom of a barrel.
Also, had to slow the speed down on the iPod, as was too fast.
Content itself was good, but painful to listen to.
