Great but complicated plot

What did you like best about this story?

The story kept me interested most of the time. The plot was never predictable and kept my brain working.

What about Suzy Jackson’s performance did you like?

I liked the way she delivered the sentences. It was as if she was just as excited about the story as the reader.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Mindbottleing

Story Disappointing And Below Expectations

I am an avid fan of Dean Koontz and enjoy being swept up in the excitement of amazing protagonists and evil ruthless villains but this story was a complete anti-climax. Out of the more than 20 Koontz books, I have read this was the worst. Don't waste your money or even more importantly, your time. Give this one a miss. Very annoying.

Good Story, but

The narrator made me cringe. Somebody teach her pronunciation of the words too big for her. I had to listen with gritted teeth.
Other than that, overwritten and schmaltzy, as expected, but a rattling good tale, as expected.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME

OH.....MY....DAYS...... Please don't waste your time with this nonsense. Poor story, predictable, slow paced, annoying characters. Just absolute horse mess. I used to love Dean Koontz novels, but somewhere , he has lost his way. I wanted to give up on this book but once i have started i have to finish, so ended up listening at double speed to move things along. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Don’t bother

This is far too long and nowhere near his best. I wouldn’t bother with this book.

A decent read

This book seemed to have everything. Good characters - loved the 2 short stories associated to this. The lead character was strong. A decent concept. However it was missing something. Just read his latest Devotion and that was great. Classic DK. So read this one and enjoy, but don’t expect a classic

I’m breathless!

I was cynical about having a female narrator for a male author’s work, but Suzy’s performance totally dissolved the wall between reality and fantasy. Koontz effortlessly weaves philosophy, mystery and magic into a story revolving around the hero we all want to be. Highly recommended!

Good but not gripping

Huge fan of Dean Koontz but this one just didn't do it for me. Well written and well narrated and still worth a listen if your a fan. Maybe it's just that I prefer his older work

Started off well and then...

Big Koontz fan but was disappointed with this book. First half or so I loved it - and then it kinda went downhill. Found the ending to be really stupid and disappointing.

Interesting but too long

Dean Koontz is a brilliant writer who has a tremendous way with big words. But they can be distracting and his overly verbose style sometimes detract from the story. Ashley Bell is a good story with an interesting twist, which is germane to Koontz's books, but it is simply too drawn out and gets lost in the verbiage. I give it 3.5 stars but rounded up simply because I like Dean Koontz in general. Also the narrator is top notch!

WOW!

Loved getting to know characters with depth and warmth.
Only Mr. Koontz can do this.
Was cheering for BB from page 1.
The character of the Captain is hauntingly captivating.
And as usual, you get to the end of a Dean Koontz novel, and you think.......what if?
Loved it!!!
