The 1990s was a decade of profound change on Broadway. At the dawn of the '90s, the British invasion of Broadway was in full swing, as musical spectacles like Les Miserables, Cats, and The Phantom of the Opera dominated the box office. But Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard soon spelled the end of this era and ushered in a new wave of American musicals, beginning with the ascendance of an unlikely show by a struggling writer who reimagined Puccini’s opera La Bohème as the smash Broadway show Rent

In 1963, 30-year-old Friedman - who had recently quit his job as a Boston advertising executive and returned to his hometown of New York to become a theatrical producer - opened a coffee house for Broadway performers called the Improvisation. His goal? Simply to make a living, and if all went according to plan, to also make enough professional contacts to be able to mount his first Broadway show within a year's time. Later shortened to the Improv, its first West 44th Street location was in a seedy section of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen.

Their success is startling, and Stax soon defines an international sound. Then, after losses both business and personal, the siblings part, and the brother allies with a visionary African-American partner. The age of the rock star, like the age of the cowboy, has passed. Like the cowboy, the idea of the rock star lives on in our imaginations. What did we see in them? Swagger. Recklessness. Sexual charisma. Damn-the-torpedoes self-belief. A certain way of carrying themselves. Good hair. Interesting shoes. Talent we wished we had. What did we want of them? To be larger than life but also like us. To live out their songs. To stay young forever. No wonder many didn't stay the course.

To summarize: Money will get you everything
To summarize his modus operandi - money is the answer to everything you want. Gene saw the power that money provides early on in life and that's clearly been his main, if not only goal in life. He shows a down to earth side to his personality in this audiobook. However authentic that side of his personality is I'm not so sure. I've met him a couple times, and by connecting with him in real life in those intimate situations I was very discomforted by his disturbing and unsavory demeanor. None of that is apparent in this book though. Throughout the book he tells some very interesting and enjoyable stories. As much as I do not like his real life personality, I found this book surprisingly enjoyable to listen to. Despite his being a total ass in real life, I must give his book top stars because its a very good book and his narration is top notch.

Oddly Enough: A great marketing book
I heard about this from a podcast on being a creative artist. Their current topic was on promoting yourself and tooting your own horn. They recomended this book. I enjoyed most of it. Plus the perspective of keeping it on the straight and narrow leads to less problems and more money. Along with ways to promote yourself. I may not be a rocker, but I will deffinately use these ideas in my graphics career.

Genes a hypocrite
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
It was a good listener but Gene such a hypocrite / hypocrite says too never get married over and over and pushes that hard then he dose.. I wish I could sue them for slander.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something interesting
Would you be willing to try another one of Gene Simmons’s performances?
I've checked out most of his books but now I think he is just a hypocrite I really wish I could sue him for is pushing non marriage and crap and how he is a big'0 ladies man but how monogamous he's been since he's met Shannon and then when he gets caught cheating he breaks down and gets married after he so against it in all of his books. He such a hypocrite hypocrite hypocrite .
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sex Money Kiss?
Probably all his hypocritical bullshit about marriage .
Any additional comments?

Not worth buying...
As an old Kiss fan, I enjoyed Kiss & Make Up... but this was pretty much painful. Here is a summary of his Guidance.
1. Careful who you marry, it will cost you money.
2. Work Seven days a week and don't waste your time watching sports and drinking beer.
3. Be cheap
4. Do what you are passionate about but have a backup plan
5. If at first you don't succeed, try ,try again
6. Don't do drugs or Alcohol
These lessons are interstrewn with the occasional kiss memory..
This is just basically a cash grab..
