Publisher's summary

An eye-popping peek into the entertainment industry from the magnetic force who has worked with an impeccable roster of stars throughout his storied career.

In the course of his legendary career as a manager, an agent, and a producer, Shep Gordon has worked with and befriended some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, from Alice Cooper to Bette Davis, Raquel Welch to Groucho Marx, Blondie to Jimi Hendrix, Sylvester Stallone to Salvador Dali, Luther Vandross to Teddy Pendergrass. He is also credited with inventing the "celebrity chef" and has worked with Nobu Matsuhisa, Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, Roger Vergé, and many others, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

In this wonderfully engaging memoir, the charismatic entertainment legend recalls his life, from his humble beginnings as a "shy, no self-esteem Jewish nebbisher kid with no ambition" in Oceanside, Long Island, to his unexpected rise as one of the most influential and respected personalities in show business, revered for his kindness, charisma - and fondness for a good time.

Gordon shares riotous anecdotes and outrageous accounts of his freewheeling, globe-trotting experiences with some of the biggest celebrities of the past five decades, including his first meeting with Janice Joplin in 1968, when the raspy singer punched him in the face.

Told with incomparable humor and heart, They Call Me Supermensch is a sincere, hilarious behind-the-scenes look at the worlds of music and entertainment from the consummate Hollywood insider.

Spermensch x 1000

Such a pleasure to listen to this story. There are very few people like Shep left in this world. The old fashioned way of doing business with a handshake, always there for people who needed help, adopting 4 kids when their mother died. I wish there were more people like Shep around. Thoroughly enjoyed this story.

As advertised, Shep Gordon is Supermensch

I do not have any examples of authors who shouldn't narrate their own books and Shep Gordon is no exception to that. Getting to hear his context is pretty great.

This is... I don't know, so well advised, as Mr. Gordon would only have it. Read this when you need something good. Listen to it when you're going through something.

What an amazing life...

What made the experience of listening to They Call Me Supermensch the most enjoyable?

The wrap up at the end brought the rest of the book together nicely. After the book is finished you think back through all of his experiences and just sigh. I even felt a little jealousness.

What a fantastic and inspiring story!

I loved this book so much and especially loved hearing it in Shep’s own voice. I had no idea he was responsible for such a transformation in the food industry and was the force behind many musical talent that I love. He is Forest Gump before there was Forest Gump but with style, class and even more kindness. A super mensch indeed. I will not soon forget this story. I listened to it on one long drive and boy, did it make it memorable. Thank you, Shep, thank you.

A Life Well Lived

A fascinating story of average man accomplishing amazing things. For someone who put so much value into production quality for me the New York accent became rather annoying.
Would have enjoyed less about what he did an more on how and why certain things happened, maybe even a chapter on things that didn’t go perfectly.
