Publisher's Summary

You deserve to have power.

It is yours for the taking.

Gene Simmons is here to unlock the doors to the temple.

Gene Simmons, KISS front man, multihyphenate entrepreneur, and master of self-invention, shares his philosophy on power - how to attain it, how to keep it, and how to harness it as a driving force in business and in life.

As cofounder of KISS, America's number one gold-record award-winning group of all time, Simmons knows the thrill and seduction of power firsthand. But gold records alone don't equal power. The decisions you make once you attain a certain level of success are what separate the pretenders from the pantheon.

Inspired by Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince, Simmons offers his unique take on the dynamics of power in every realm of life, from the bedroom to the boardroom, to the world of rock, celebrity, and social media, to politics. With one-of-a-kind anecdotes from his life and career as well as stories from historical and contemporary masters of power, including Winston Churchill, Napoleon Bonaparte, Warren Buffett, Michael Jordon, Oprah, and Elon Musk, Simmons crafts a persuasive and provocative theory on how the pursuit of power drives civilization and defines our lives.

The rules of power are changing in today's fast-paced, hyperconnected world in a way that Machiavelli never could have imagined, and we all need to learn to adapt. Simmons tells listeners: Ignore the negatives. Be unrelenting. Rise above the rest. You are the architect of your success.

Wildly fascinating and informative

Thoroughly entertaining and educational. I was disappointed to find the author wasn’t reading the book. Alan Sklar gives a remarkable performance. I highly recommend this book. Love or hate Gene Simmons. Agree or not, he’s a brilliant guy.

A TOTAL Surprise!

I stumbled on this book in a store, and picked it up out of curiosity, expecting the usual cocky attitude Gene often displays. Randomly opened to the chapter on Dave Grohl and couldn't stop reading! This book showed a side of Gene that was far more relatable than I ever expected! I'm not a fan of his larger than life ego...but in this book he seems far more down to earth and humble than I ever imagined. Oh, there's still an overdose of confidence, but he's far more palatable, and it was an interesting read for this 50 year old, who had been a huge KISS fan in the 70's. I liked it!

Entertaining

A different perspective on success; applicable in some areas, overbearing in others. Definitely a "the end justifies the means" kind of mentality.

An elegant portrayal of basic Information

Gene puts together a practice guide to being an effective adult (it could be subtitled “what to do after puberty is over”). On Power is an easy to understand review of concepts many people know but forget and never use due to what he would describe it in the book as “entitlement” or being “sheltered.” Gene hits it spot on with “On Power” and I look forward to the next one of his books I will listen too. Alan Sklar is a great orator and sounds like Gene I think, though honestly I just started getting into his music. Quick last little note this book is NOT a politically correct (PC) book and Gene makes a point of calling out common erroneous PC thought patterns that detract from people’s actual standing in the world. If you are one of those people who lives life looking for a chance to be offended and act indignant this book will definitely be an ego threat for you. Thanks Gene!

His other book is better.

I liked Gene Simmons' other book, Me Inc. This one had a few highlights, but not as informative. I enjoyed hearing about his life, and a few tidbits. I really enjoyed hearing stories about Oprah, Elon Musk, Stan Lee, and Warren Buffett towards the end! This book was ok, but not life changing for me.
