Publisher's summary

The first definitive biography of the ultimate American rock band

How did a pair of little Dutch boys trained in classical music grow up to become the nucleus of the most popular heavy metal band of all time? What's the secret behind Eddie Van Halen's incredible fast and furious guitar solos? What makes David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar so wacky? And, are all those stories about groupies, booze bashes, and contract riders true? The naked truth is laid bare in Everybody Wants Some - the real-life story of a rock 'n' roll fantasy come true.

Good details of albums and post-1984 career

I’ve listened to three different Van Halen biographies. The other two are focused mostly on the early years up through 1984. This one covers the Early albums better than the other biographies, and really adds a lot to the full story of what happened to the van Halen after 1984 up to 2007. I do give it two thumbs up and a recommendation for a detail in that area of the story. Lots of great quotes and interesting bits.

Another listening great!

This was the third VH book I've listened to as good as the other two and Sammy's Red, some of the same information and some new.
wasn't disappointed!

Very well done.

But painful. 1985-2007. 22 years of trying in vain to recapture the relative effortlessness that made VH great. Sad. But man what a great band. I understand the compulsion to try and try again, that’s not tne kind of thing that you just walk away from. Fans love you when you’re on top and love to also love to witness your demise. The entertainment business is rarely a happy and healthy choice. RIP Eddie what a force.

good listen...

Good listen but nothing really new here. The narrator flubbed a few words and didnt seem overly knowlegeable abot the topic.. ex... solder not soldier. Rollmops not romance.

Great book with great narration

Any additional comments?

If you're into Van Halen in any of its phases, this is the book for you. Well-researched, fast moving and complete. Narration is superior.

story is ok, if not a continuity train wreck

This book skips around and repeats itself a lot. It also ends in 2008. Since Eddie's not here to defend himself and wouldn't care to anyway this is probably as close to a neutral portrait of the group up to that time. It left me wanting more. Since I just bought it from Audible I was expecting the info to be current not 14 years old. There were some great moments in it though.

Awesome VH Narrator for a great book

This is the second Van Halen book read by Fred Berman, and he does equally well here as he did with "Running With the Devil", a book by the band's Roth era manager (an incredible read for fans). Both books complie info fans know with plenty of nuggets we don't, making an entertaining listen. Fred Berman's voice is pitch perfect whether relaying facts or enacting quotes from each member. The book is well written and sadly relives how badly Michael Anthony has been treated, working more as a hired janitor than founding member. A very recommended read or listen for anyone interested in Van Halen.
