Publisher's Summary

Back by popular demand! The further, fearsome, and funny adventures of Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection - written by Alexander C. Kane and performed by Bahni Turpin, 2018 Audie Award winner for Best Female Narrator.

More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More.

Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her. Especially since Congress is determined to bring the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection and all of “Big Supe” under government control.

Even with mankind’s greatest heroes fighting back, will it fall on Andrea to save the day - again?

Like being in a hilarious group chat with your pub trivia team

In this superhero workplace comedy performed by Bahni Turpin, the juxtaposition of the fantastical and the mundane is pure delight. There are pop cultural references galore (a Third Eye Blind joke had me laughing out loud), punny superhero names (Great Gory Samsa), real-life locations (shout-out to Hoboken Terminal!), and tiny throwaway jokes that come satisfyingly full circle. If you love The Princess Bride and The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, this Audible Original is for you. —Robyn F., Social Media

Well actually, it's even better than the first one

Incredibly entertaining. No sophomore slump here - I thought the second book was even better than the first entry in the series. Some of the returning characters were more fully fleshed out (who knew Ms. O had such an interesting personal life?) and the introduction of Never More was a fantastic addition to the cast of characters.

Bahni Turpin's narration was, once again, beyond exceptional. She uses very distinct voices which beautifully suit each individual character. She has a huge range of inflections and accents - she's absolutely amazing.

Normally I hate cliff-hanger endings, but even though this book has them on multiple levels, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun listen. I'm positive it wouldn't be your biggest regret.

imaginative and funny

As soon as I finished the 1st book in this series I rushed to this 1. They are unlike anything else I usually read. They are funny and The stories move quickly along. I enjoyed the voices more in this book that in the 1st And I highly recommend

The Fun Continues

The craziness of Kane's 'Super'-filled world is once again on display in this enjoyable sequel.

Andrea, Persephone, The Big Axe and all the others at CUP face their greatest challenge with the same bravery and wacky humor. Characters grow and show new and sometimes surprising aspects.

Bahni Turpin is amazing! She switches accents from deep Texas to the Bronx to South Africa all within a few seconds and keeps them all straight and true to each character. I could almost always tell which character was speaking before the "said XYZ."

Can't wait for the next book!

Team Sock Sock Shoe Shoe

Alexander C. Kane and Bahni Turpin did it again. They have to be one of the best author/narrator combinations I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I seriously laughed and smiled so much listening to much loved characters from the first book returning (Inspector Well Actually is still in rare form), as well getting to know some new ones (Nevermore is an excellent super villain/best friend). The only thing I wish I'd known before buying was that it has a cliffhangery-ish ending. I don't normally do cliffhangers, but that's on me for downloading before any other reviews were out. So I'll sit here, not so patiently waiting for a third book, hoping that it's in the works. Can't wait to read about you again soon AV!

Like being in a group chat with your trivia team

I absolutely loved 'Andrea Vernon and The Corporation for Ultrahuman Protection,' so when I learned there would be a sequel, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. In this superhero workplace comedy performed by Bahni Turpin, the juxtaposition of the fantastical and the mundane never fails to delight–like the time Andrea and her supervillain frenemy go out drinking and get into a heated argument about the correct way to get dressed (it’s obviously sock sock, shoe shoe, NOT sock shoe, sock shoe!). There are pop culture references galore (Jessica Alba’s Honest Company, the TV show Arrested Development, and a well-timed Third Eye Blind joke that had me laughing out loud on my morning commute) and you almost forget you’re listening to a story about bureaucratic red tape. There are punny superhero names (Great Gory Samsa), real-life locations (shout-out to Hoboken Terminal!), and tiny throwaway jokes that come satisfyingly full circle in the penultimate scenes. If you love ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy,’ don’t miss ‘Andrea Vernon and the Superhero Industrial Complex.’

Better than the first

I wasn’t sure it could get better but somehow Mr. Kane outdid himself. Perfect pacing, story just perfect. Ms. Turpin is my favorite of all time and she made his words come alive. Thank you and hurry up and get the next one out!!!

Brilliant blend of action and comedy

This is the second book by Alexander C Kane about Executive Assistant Andrea Vernon - a woman trying to maintain order in a world of chaotic superheroes and supervillains.

The first book, ‘Andrea Vernon and the Corporation of UltraHuman Protection’, set up the characters and saw them battling space invaders. The ‘Superhero Industrial Complex’ sees supervillain Nevermore trying to take over the world by subverting the political system that governs the superheroes.

***The Good***
- Kane is an exceptionally creative writer. He manages to combine satire on national and office politics, engaging battle sequences, careful plotting, and brilliantly imagined superheroes and villains.
- Bahni Turpin really understands the humour of the book, and does an excellent job of making the characters come alive.
- Rather than rehashing the plot of the first book, this one develops the universe in interesting ways and includes some very funny new situations and characters. GLARE was brilliant.

***The Bad***
- Turpin’s performance for some characters is very loud and harsh on the ears. This worked for me, but probably wouldn’t if you listen to books to go to sleep.
- I would strongly recommend listening to the first Andrea Vernon book before this one. The story is standalone, but it’s more rewarding if you know the background to the characters.

Overall, a great listen which sets things up nicely for Book 3.

I can haz more??

oh god! The puns! They burnses! So many!!!

I don't recall the last time I laughed this hard or this long...
This is a true masterpiece of humour, puns and jokes...
If you didn't enjoy the humour of the first one, you should avoid this like the plague.
The actual story is nothing special, but Mr. Kane' telling of it is something else all together, and Ms. Turpin raises it to a whole new level.
So many wonderful voices with those little extra touches like Nevermore's crowing... Truly impressive <3

Not as good as the first book

Still funny, and super well read, but the plot's not as tightly written and it just drags a bit.
