The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

Publisher's Summary
This simple easily-digestible audiobook holds the key to your health and happiness.
Peter is 53 years old and about to experience the greatest paradigm shift of his life. His journey begins after a serious life-threating incident one day at work. In despair at what the future holds, Peter gradually awakens and discovers the shocking truth about something so commonplace we all believe it’s normal, natural, and necessary.
Along the way, Peter discovers that the path to health, peace, and happiness is not where he thought it would be, so he follows a different, hidden path. On his journey we follow Peter as he meets the nutritionist, the marathon runner, the farmer, the lads in the pub, the environmentalist, and the Yogi. These intriguing and enlightened characters act as guides for Peter as they share their wisdom about lifestyle choices and adopting a plant-based vegan diet.
Each of these encounters takes Peter closer and closer to a new awareness of what is really going on.
This story is intended to encourage the listener to think more deeply about health, animals, climate change, and the environment. It’s revealing, shocking, and inspiring; yet its lessons are easily applicable for everyone.
This audiobook is for those looking to improve their health in a natural but incredibly powerful way.
It’s for those who have or know someone with heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, brain disease, digestive cancers, high-blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, and almost any chronic illness.
But it’s also an audiobook for those who have already taken up a heart-healthy diet and lifestyle and discovered the core message of this audiobook but are now looking to inspire or motivate a friend or loved one to make the change that they need.

All you need to know about going vegan in a story
If you are worried about your health, have trouble losing weight, or struggle giving up meat, get this book!
The book carries an honest and passionate message wrapped in the story of a 53-year old man.
Peter, like many men and women his age, encounters health problems, including serious heart condition that requires surgery. He believes heart diseases run in the family and there is nothing he can do about it.
He is in about to discover that this isn’t really the truth, that there is a way to get a healthy heart without surgery and pills. Peter meets someone who, like him, have had problems with the heart but is now healthy and runs marathons.
The author takes us on a journey where we get to witness the transformation Peter goes through - both physical and mental transformation. He is about to discover a new way better way of life.
This book is for you if:
- you have health problems like diabetes heart disease high blood pressure high cholesterol, etc.
- you have put on lots of weight and struggle losing it;
- you are not in shape, can’t lift considered not-too-heavy items;
- you have trouble climbing stairs and being out of breath;
- you struggle giving up meat;
- you desire better health and longer life for you and tour family;
The book addresses negative beliefs, pokes stereotypes and debunks myths, all while telling the story of Peter who is turning into his healthiest self.
My favorite takeaway from the book “It’s one thing to have the information [...] but it’s another thing to put the knowledge into practice.”

Inspiring and Eye-Opening!
Thank you, Mr. Twigg, for this beautiful audiobook! I had made the decision to switch to a vegan diet after watching the documentary mentioned in your book, What the Health, only a couple months ago, before I’d listened to your book. This story was more confirmation of the information I’ve been learning since choosing my health over eating meat (which I don’t even miss!). I hadn’t noticed how much calmer I feel until I heard it mentioned in the book. I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who is curious about the health benefits of a plant-based diet. It’s sad that none of us is given this information in school or by most doctors, and the reasons are quite eye-opening.

This is an excellent book. It gives an overall description of the diet and what it can do. It starts with explaining, giving hints for success, shopping lists, recipes, and sample meals. Very surprised!
I am actually very surprised that I enjoyed this book but I genuinely did and listened to it over a few days. I wanted to know some information about a plant based diet and this fictional book gives it you in a much more interesting way than reading an information article about the topic. I loved all the different characters and found them really interesting as they told their stories and how the main character took on board what they had to say to change his lifestyle and his health. I loved hearing how the main character’s relationship with his wife changed too. I would definitely recommend this book and I am certainly changing the things that I eat for a more healthier plant based approach following listening to this book. I am very much looking forward to what lies ahead in the next few months. Also loved the author’s accent reading the book. Already recommended to a couple of people to read.

Informative and Inspirational
Everyone should listen to this book. The message is very relevant today with climate change a hot topic. However the narration and the very relatable main character makes this an enjoyable listen. It's hard to finish this book without new goals and being better informed. I also found it amusing and lighthearted.

An insightful and motivating, life-changing read
Like Peter narrates in this highly interesting and thought provoking read, "We all have a vested interest in climate change.... By making one change in your life could save you money and make you healthier and happier!" . ...so why not read this book?! Without preaching at us to change our diets and lifestyles to become vegan, the author, Alan Twigg, instead attempts to persuade us by simply encouraging us to consider the basic facts! After listening to Joanne's advice about climate change, the main character starts to understand how destructive animal agriculture is. Surely if by accepting a plant based diet, we can become healthier and happier then I too, (and other listeners) can be converted!? After enjoying this audio book I have to admit that I am feeling more intrigued!
The author has a friendly and familiar, down to earth tone which makes this audio book less patronising and just reassuring. His occasional spoken errors remind us of his honesty and compassion. Alan Twigg is clearly passionate about delivering this life-changing and inspirational message, and if it helps us: his readers , to live longer and happier lives, whilst also reducing our carbon footprints on our previous planet, then I would encourage others to invest in this book.
After reading this I certainly don't feel bamboozled with facts, although there were many to be aware of, but it has definitely made me stop and think. Facts like 1100 gallons of water are saved due to each vegan per day, not to mention the animals lives and reduced co2.
This book has resonated with me on many levels. I too am an animal lover and have never truly felt comfortable eating meat but as Alan has pointed out in this honest novel, we are all gullible and brainwashed by policy makers and educators who hide some of these harsh facts from us. We are reminded of the links to the harmful effects of smoking and the difference between eating cattle or even dogs.
People are reluctant to change, and this book reiterates this message throughout, as it also promotes compromises with gentle suggestions such as reducing our meat consumption to trying clean meat, grown in a lab. With all this in mind, is it any wonder that the vegan population has massively increased over recent years!?
This book could be highly reassuring to anyone facing health difficulties, but also to any open minded individuals, who are perhaps ready to face a change and help to save our panet!

Worth a listen!
To a degree it is a very basic - at times almost child like - level of story telling, however I have to admit it will get the points of the story across more effectively to a wider audience than the scientific, more factual or theoretical books I usually read. It did make some good points particularly about the meat industry that were very eye opening to me!

As a vegan of over 3 years, it was lovely to hear a story of a typical bloke go towards a plant based diet and improve his life. It reinforced why I went vegan in the first place so I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in the plant based movement and for vegans who just want to listen to a feel good story.

Engaging
A refreshing and pleasant take on going vegan. Alan is an engaging and humorous story teller that a lot of normal people will identify with. I really enjoyed this listen
