Generous and humane leader

I do worry about the historical facts and interpretations but this is universal in history books. As an introduction to the vast array of history subjects presented by Captivating History. I praise them and thank them for their efforts.

Discovering Cyrus

The book is much more comprehensive researched, and includes the most recent knowledge about this great historical figure, including the Cyrus Cylinder. This book should be on the bookshelves of All Iranians and the scholars and researchers engaged on research about the Persian Empires and the first empire builder.

Insightful

I was especially impressed with the way in which Captivating History was able to weave together the strands of information from primary sources and draw new and compelling insights from the documentation. His book is a high watermark and I find myself returning to it again and again.

Very insightful

Good book for sure, lots of great lessons to learn. I felt like the author wrote it in such a way that it Cyrus was almost 'too' righteous and virtuous (i.e. embellishment), but I suppose that just shows his reverence of the man/legend.

I will learn more management tips from it

This book is highly recommended for even the non-scholars whether you're only interested in military strategy or the influence of ancient religious beliefs on Judaism or the debate over the Cyrus Cylinder being the very first human rights declaration.

Gets preachy toward the end

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It is concise, but tells a compelling story. My only complaint is the religious tolerance sermon at the end. The author literally finishes by discussing the Islamic conquest, which ended religious toleration, then goes on to preach that modern people need to be as progressive as the Achaemid Empire. The reason we cannot have such toleration is the threat to civilization posed by adherents of the religion that destroyed the empire.

Well known History

This book takes into consideration all the well known Greek sources from the time of the building of the Persian empire. It also takes into consideration the few Persian sources of history that have survived to our time. It is by far the most accurate rendering of the events of the time of Cyrus.
