Excellent book

Such an important book. I’ll admit, much of my knowledge of Iran and it’s history is a patchwork quilt of stories from the news, A good book if you don’t know anything about Iran.

very detailed a bit boring

Very detailed. Sometimes the big picture is lost. A review or summary of every period would help.

get a better understanding of the recent history

It went into enough depth to give a really solid background on the history, but it's couched in a really engaging narrative that keeps it from feeling like a textbook.

Good information and simple to understand.

It is in the end a fascinating look at how democracy in Iran has evolved over last century while dealing with state building and role of religion in society.

This book is an extraordinary book

This book is an extraordinary look at the history of Iran,The authors present a thorough academic and educated analysis of historical events in Iran. Yet they take it a step further by analyzing the philosophy, thought process, and politics of Iran's respective leaders and population at large.

Very well written book and super informative.

It provides an outsider a good look. Get it logical, clear to understand the flow of Iranian history. Suggest to requiring users who are familiar with history books (maybe not the one start with if you have not seen anything like that before).

Terrible reader

Such an interesting (for me anyway) subject; and concise and fairly clear writing. But, oh dear, the reader can't pronounce any of the names. Most of the names I already knew, I was able to recognise, but with difficulty! As to the names I did not recognise, who were they? No indication is given. Why not have a reader who knows at least a bit about what he is reading? Or who is willing to learn the conventional pronunciation of historical names?

I am fine with the way it was written and I do not

I am fine with the way it was written and I do not think it was intended to be written as an unbiased peek into Iran, but the author does have an implicit bias and a sometimes explicit bias throughout the book.

A compassionate, realistic and convincing look

All this is sadly and tragically true, but Iran`s government is not Iran and, as the book makes clear, Iranians themselves have very different views and aspirations.
