Expect it to be a mile wide but an inch deep - it's more of a general reference than a fleshed-out history.it was interesting to see how the game has been played from ancient times.

Very informative on a lost civilization

I'm not an archaeologist nor a historian so I enjoyed both the written style and depth of coverage of this book. It was exactly the sort of thing I was looking for and provided important insights into the impact this ancient civilization had on our own culture.

good source book

presentation and good style make this book an accessible introduction to Hittite culture and civilization. I would not hesitate using this book in any course in which I would need a thorough yet concise presentation of the Hittites, especially since the book is relatively cheap.

Effective

If you are looking for a very in-depth and scholarly work, this is probably not the best book although it is very good. If you are looking for a book that is easy to deal with and is quite comprehensive without being overly pedantic then I suggest that this is a great place to start.

Great work

This book contained more details on an ancient civilization than I would have thought was possible. I was interested in the daily living aspect that this book provided. I did get confused with the explanations of the different dynasties and city-states.

Easy to understand

A short book summarizing Hittites and its story as told by archaeological remains. The Hittites created the first civilization, and we still use tools, mathematics, etc., created by them. Their influence directly affected Mesopotamia.

The value of history!!!

This book describes a fascinating and little known part of history that may have answers to questions being asked today. It may explain some of the dynamics still ruling this region and why the people there still think as they do. This is the value of history. It helps us to understand ourselves and others and build better relationships throughout the world.

best source

The single best source on the Hittites I am aware of, packed with-free information on the history, language, religion, culture, and legacy of one of the ancient world's first and most war-like empires.
