Uneven

While there are lots of bits of interesting info in this sweeping volume, it sometimes feels like a term paper: often worded awkwardly and in some cases disagreeing with or misinterpreting the established scholarship. Also, the narrators (some more than others) regularly mispronounce names of kings - but also basic words (caveat is not read as kaVEET: 0, 1, 2, 3 / 4, 5 is not read as "three-quarters"

"however"

This might seem petty, but the overuse of "however" became a distraction. the book also seems to be repetitive.

great if you're a history nerd

lots of great info, fairly dry but I think that's to be expected. I'm already really into sumerian and Babylonian history and myth so I enjoyed it and it was nice to learn about the cultures that came after the Babylonians

Interesting and very readable

I was not familiar with the Akkadian Empire before this. This, written in normal story style, is an interesting and very readable introduction.

bad reading, bad editing, frequent random pausing

the substance of these books was good information, but the reading is badly pronounced with little effort put into stating names with their proper inflections. sometimes the same name or word is pronounced wrong within one or two sentences of eachother, making it confusing to follow what or who they are talking about. common english word also suffer in the reading depending upon the reader.
overall, the story is informative, but to someone who is unfamiliar with Mesopotamia and its history, these books may contribute to a fair bit of pronunciation mishaps when attempting to converse with an individual who knows the proper ways of saying Hammurabi or Senacharib.

Narration!!

If only they had selected a better reader. Especially one who could pronounce the names and places. I finished the book, but I don’t think I’d purchase another from this series. I’m actually glad it’s finally over.
