Publisher's Summary

"Just because one of you carries his scars on the outside, doesn't mean that the rest of you don't have them. Unbroken people don't live in a house together with their colleagues. They have lives, families. They don't take in strays."

Emily never expected to find herself on the street and looking for a place to stay. A park bench doesn't seem inviting in the depths of winter.

Her luck changes when a mysterious stranger offers her shelter. It seems too good to be true, and when she meets his other two housemates, she starts to question if he's the good Samaritan he seems to be.

Staying means things she couldn't even dream of. Going means facing the danger of the winter streets. Can she make the impossible choice? And will she make the right one?

A contemporary reverse harem set in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is the extended version of Streets of Winter, a novella previously published in the Snow and Seduction anthology. Eighteen+.

This is a full-length stand-alone novel that's part of the Defiance trilogy: three books, three women, three real-life stories. These dark contemporary reverse harem romances can be listened to individually or as part of the series. They are loosely connected by side characters and settings, but they each have a different heroine, theme, and love interests.

I so love this

Em has hit some hard times. She unexpectedly loses her place to stay and winds up homeless. Unexpected help comes when life is at its worst for her. I love that she doesn’t want anything handed to her and wants to stand on her own two feet. Intrigue and love await you on this journey. The narration is so good. I really want more.

Interesting Story!

This was a different Reverse Harem than usual. The story is filled with mystery, intrigue and suspense. Sija Kyo has a great voice, with a beautiful accent.

Abandoned Heart was super engaging!!

I really enjoyed this audiobook by Skye MacKinnon and narrated by Kyo Sija. I hadn't read this book before, its been on my TBR for awhile and was super excited that it was made into an audiobook!

So I was really surprised by the narration. I have listened to a previous book by Kyo and I wasn't impressed and thought her delivery took away from the story. This was definitely not the case with her interpretation of Abandoned Heart. I thought she did a fabulous job with the different voices, especially Ben's. I loved that I could easily tell who was talking, and that is sometimes hard for female narrators doing the male counterparts. I loved it and thought she did a great job. Definitely makes me want to listen to another of hers.

The storyline was really great and I wish it wasn't a standalone haha. I loved the different guys personalities, but wish we got to see more time with Em and Luther. I think Em had amazing moments with Ben and Alistair but didn't get those highlights with Luther. That I think was my only critique. I loved the take on a dark topic, with homelessness, assault, etc. I thought it brought to light hardships that some of us ignore and need to pay attention to, especially because it could be us or a loved one one day. I liked the different confrontations and was happy to see Em wasn't a victim in the last one (like she got herself out of the situation even though that stuff still affected her). She is definitely a survivor and never gave up. I will say I wanted to learn more about the guys work and maybe we could get a novella or bonus scenes in the future when this series of standalone books is complete.

Overall, great job Skye and Kyo. Can't wait to listen to Broken Princess next ❤️

Nice thought, very poor execution

There was no apparent plot, and yet there was so much minutiae and detail with a glaring absence of a theme.
We have read some great reverse harem stories. This is not one of them.
However, the narrator was great. But the story was so disjointed it was like reading a series of unrelated Facebook posts.

Note to author: don’t give up. Keep trying....

Needed more from story

Abandoned Heart

This is the second book I’ve read from Skye Mackinnon. Once read, I listened to audio and the narrator made the story pretty great.

The sequence of the story, relationships that started and depth of connection to the characters was not really my style but I enjoyed the audio. Kyo Sija is easily becoming my favorite voice to listen to.

Interesting look into Edinburgh's underbelly

This Reverse Harem book is full of mystery and intrigue but overall sexiness. A tough woman who has been kicked out of her lovers apartment and into the streets finds herself homeless and alone until she meets the men that will change her lives forever.

This book was very different than the usual reverse harems. It was a bit of Spy Games and sexiness with a tinge of darkness. Set in Edinburgh, Scotland gave it a peak into the underbelly of Scottish life as our heroine fights for survival - and fight she does. She is very strong and independent but still faces a harrowing life as a homeless woman on the streets. She encounters all manners of ruffians and misadventures living on the streets of Edinburgh and becomes a survivor in the process. Luckily for her she finds herself the object of interest of a mysterious man who offers her food and shelter. We find out much later why she is so desired.

This was new to me author and I like her style of writing. The book was a little too short and I wanted the story to continue.

The narration was done by a single female narrator and was pretty good even with the varying male voices. I would however, love to see dual narration for the second book.

I hope that the second book explores more of what this first book set up and delves into the mysterious organization that the men are a part of. What I liked most about this book is it set up an unflinching look into what life is like for homeless women and often what they are forced to endure.

James Bond x3

Emily is starving and homeless. She is skeptical about the other street people....and she should be, because she ends up in the hospital for the same reason.

Then 3 men give her the opportunity she's not only needs but wants, but it's not what she expects, and danger, but it's something she's always wanted and she'd be off the streets.

This was such a fun read by Sky MacKinnon. Kyo Sija also dida terrific job giving accents and personalities to characters

Wasn't What I Expected!

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I started reading this book, however, I loved what I got! In the beginning, I wasn't a fan of Emily. She was having a rough going of things, and I completely understood her mindset giving the circumstances. She was resilient and feisty. I grew to like her, but I found that I absolutely loved the men. I thought meeting the other two guys, Ben would be my favorite. However, it was Alistar who caught my attention. I would love to get an entire series on just these four characters!

Good Listen

Emily's girlfriend kicked her out and she became homeless. A stranger approaches offers a meal but she knows he wants something. She runs and he finds her because she was attacked. She moves in with three guys and a relationship full of danger starts. Some scenes were rushed but a good listen. Good Narration
