Publisher's Summary

"I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne in the realm of faerie, onetime private investigator in the mortal world. To be crowned queen, I must first continue the royal bloodline and give birth to an heir of my own. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais, will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel, as monarch...and kill me.

"My royal guards surround me, and my best loved - my Darkness and my Killing Frost - are always beside me, sworn to protect and make love to me. But still the threat grows greater. For despite all my carnal efforts I remain childless, while the machinations of my sinister, sadistic Queen and her confederates remain tireless. So my bodyguards and I have slipped back into Los Angeles, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But even exile isn't enough to escape the grasp of those with dark designs.

"Now King Taranis, powerful and vain-glorious ruler of faerie's Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime - and has gone so far as to ask the mortal authorities to prosecute. If he succeeds, my men face extradition to faerie and the hideous penalties that await them there. But I know that Taranis' charges are baseless, and I sense that his true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child. Now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying."

Getting back to the meat and potatoes!

Way to go! For a while I thought that the books by Laurel K. Hamilton were slipping into a rut of nothing but sex and more sex. I thoroughly enjoyed that this book, while not light on the sex, was meatier plot. I felt it was much truer to the characters we fell in love with. I hope that the next books continue in this fashion!

Love, love, love this series!

And while the narrator is good, I wish Claudia Black had narrated them ALL! I love the work she did in Swallowing Darkness sooooo much that I'd spend the money and buy the entire series again if she was narrating it. She is AWESOME!

Too Short

good performance, good story but was too short for the cost of the book. I enjoyed it and would recommend it

this book was great, best one in the series yet..I like being able to listen to the story and not have to hear just sexually explicit scenes.

not the best, not the worst, a transition

This is the last book in the series to be narrated by Laural Merlington (thankfully). It's a shorter novel more a transition between the longer books 5 and 7. I think the best part is learning more about Frost and how he came into being. For some reason they didn't whispersync this one book out of the series. Re-reading this series is the first time I've truly used the whispersync feature to go back and forth with my kindle and I really missed it.

Can't take it anymore!

I love this series. I do NOT like this narrator. i have had to endure her thru all of these books and only my love of the series kept me listening. shes not actually bad but i listen to it with headphones and she always sounds like she has a piece of bread in her mouth and keeps moving it around. Or maybe her mouth is dry. Whatever it is it is so irritating. Claudia Black was so refreshing in Swallowing Darkness. if Claudia narrated these books over i would buy them again.

The main character is 33 but sounds like she's 60

I'm sure Laural Merlington is a lovely person and actor, but why on Goddess's green earth would you hire someone who sounds like she's 60 when the main character is in her early 30s??? It's incredibly distracting, but I love LKH, so I'll put up with it.

Where the next book

The last book was not what I was looking for with the death of the king that walk Between, I’m hoping that will be made as a nightmare and she wake with home there and not gone. And that the narrator is Laurral Merlington and there will be more book coming very soon I truly love everything you put out so please don’t stop.
