Publisher's summary

Twenty years ago, monsters rose on earth and began a new age of civilization.

One where humans live in military-controlled, cramped and dirty cities along the coasts, and the majority of the United States is known as the Wastes. A lawless, desolate and dangerous place, teeming with monsters that have claimed the land for their own.

Including Wyn the Soul Eater.

He appears every three years, making his way across the country and slaughtering humans randomly, sucking them dry until they’re nothing but husks.

I’ve only been in the military for six months, but now I’m part of a unit tasked with trying to stop and capture him. And when I’m the only soldier out of hundreds that the Soul Eater leaves alive, I realise that something about me has intrigued him.

But what is it? What could a twenty-three-year-old guy from the south, with no one and nothing in the world, have possibly done to capture the attention of a death monster with horns, blackened fingertips and a face hidden in the dark depths of his hood?

Soul Eater is book one of Monstrous, a post-apocalyptic fantasy series featuring monsters and human men falling in love. It is a m/m love story and contains sexually explicit content and graphic depictions of torture and violence.

Did not disappoint

The narration was really good, I was worried they wouldn’t get Wyns name right but the narrator did a really fantastic job.

The only hiccup was that the the audio seemed to repeat a couple times?

I love this story I cannot wait to to hear the novella Wyn!!!!

Great performance!

Really dig the storyline (especially excited it’s a part of a series!) and the reader’s performance. I was scrolling through Audible and found this title by chance. If you’re lookin’ for a romance/sci-fi sitch to just smash through in 24 hours, this is it. Don’t wanna give nothin’ away!

Wow!

The story was great and sweet but I’m most here to gush about the performance! I’ve logged in so many audiobooks in the past few years I could have my own library and this book blew me way! I felt like I was watching a movie instead of listening to a book. The emotions, just wow!

Loved this, buying the paper/hard back

2023 started out as a year for Monsters! Trying to see how others define the term. This reminds me of Mary Shelley's "The Modern Prometheus" but with dimension jumping and parasites. #IAWThoughts

More than five stars 🌟

I love this story and the imaginative characters and unexpected twists. I couldn't even stop listening until the story was finished. The whole series is the best I have ever read and I can't wait for the next one.

Amazing performance for an amazing book!

I love Lily Mayne’s books, Monstrous Books 1, 3 and 5 been my favorites. Almost every time a new book is released, I reread the previous ones, to remember all the details. So, I’ve read Soul Eater at least 5 times, and was really hoping it would be available in Audible, as an audiobook.
I was a little worried the narrator wouldn’t be able to impress me with Wyn’s voice, but Michael Lesley surprised me with how amazing his performance was!!!! Seriously, it was ominous and deep, even more frightening than in my head, just how it was supposed to be! I loved it! His performance during the audiobook, specially the hot scenes, were definitely so good that I have a new favorite Narrator! He showed all the necessary feelings, and really made me feel immersed in the history.
Edin voice was really sexy! His and Hunter’s book will be hot!
I’m looking forward to get all the audiobooks in this series.

Love loved this book!

5/5 ⭐️
3/5 🌶️

A monster romance and make it MM? Say no more! I loved Wyn and Danny in this book.

Danny is in the military and he is having trouble agreeing with his superiors. He doesn’t agree with finding and trapping monsters, but he also knows monsters need to be stopped. He just doesn’t think they should be tortured or held captive.

One day he’s on a raid with his team to try and catch the soul eater. The Soul eater (Wyn) kills everyone except Danny. Danny spends the majority of the book trying to figure out why he was spared and that’s how their story unfolds.

I love Wyns character and that even though he’s a monster he isn’t completely heartless. I also love that Danny is accepting and just genuinely doesn’t want to hurt anyone. Their story is beautiful and I the smüt was 🥵🥵

Just being honest here

So, I love this series, adore it. I’ve read all the books so when I found out the audiobooks were finally coming out I was so stoked. Soul Eater is still a wonderful book, emotional and sexy and interesting. But Michael Lesley’s southern accent was…. Not great. I did get kinda used to it from about chapter 4, onwards, though. But it was sometimes inconsistent and fade away a little here and there. Also, and I’m not sure if it was a weird audible glitch or editing snafus but sometimes I’d hear a sentence repeated. And a couple times I heard Edin or Danny’s voice sound like Wyn. I did really like his Wyn voice, though. It was dark and raspy and great for the character.

Despite my criticism, the Edin preview at the end of the book made me look forward to the next book. I just hope Michael Lesley improves his accent for the Wyn novella.
