Publisher's summary

Modern-day Atlanta. Driven by his tragic past, prosecutor Chance Meridian seeks justice for a beautiful woman brutally murdered in her own home.

Except nothing comes easy in Atlanta, and certainly not justice. A lot of people in town wanted Sara Barton dead, and every single one of them is lying about something. Chance shouldn't be surprised. Murder is an ugly business. But so is love.

Masterful, fast-paced, and full of intrigue, The Murder of Sara Barton is an intense courtroom drama brimming with suspense.

Surprised

I wasn’t certain that I was going to like this. I started it twice, but the narrator’s bugged me. But the third time it was not an issue for me (state of mind thing I’m certain) and once I started listening, I really did enjoy it. It didn’t end the way I wanted, but the ending made me wanting more of this character. Enjoyed it

Really well done.

I liked this book tremendously. Though I had a good inkling about the surprise ending, I was still interested in every detail of this novel. The narration and writing was impeccable. The author did an amazing job with his debut release. I’m only sad at the amount of time I’ll have to wait for the rest of the series. My only complaint was the amount of the love story that took over the book. I’m not used to romance in legal thrillers. I’d prefer to go without that stuff. But since it all comes together at the end, I guess it was not so bad.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I am looking forward to listening to the other books in this series. Although I thought somewhat predictable it is still very well written and entertaining. Chance Meridian is an excellent character who is totally believable. The narrator is terrific. I just bought the second and am hoping that it is as good as this one.

Great Story, Less than Great Narration

Mr. McMillian wrote a great superb legal thriller that kept me interested enough to finish the text, despite the narration. Honestly, I cannot pinpoint what aspect of Mr. Lane’s presentation left me wanting. Others may really appreciate his efforts. His “southern” drawl is perfect for the main character, but I needed some further distinction between other supporting characters.

Pleasantly surprised

I’ve never read this author prior to this book and now I’m hooked. The story is plausible (for the most part), and comes across as authentic, especially with the reader being a southerner.

I truly don’t understand some of the complains in reviews, the book was exciting and believable. Highly recommend.

Great story

Great story with awesome twist. Not often to have a book who’s main character is male weak and vulnerable!! It’s usually the female characters that are falling apart!!!!!

Well done performance. Nice twist

Very much worth a credit. Enjoyed from start to finish. Didnt like the syrupy “southern” accent if the narrator at first but then realized it fit the characters well.

Finished listening at 3:15am, and murmured, "Wow!"

I loved everything about this book. The writing style is deeply engaging, with all the elements of southern literature-- a strong connection to the past, struggle with loss, coming to terms with family, beautiful descriptive imagery, dark humor, sarcasm, and Christian theology: temptation, sin, salvation, and redemption. All of this from the point of view of a complex man trying to solve a murder and convict the despicable perpetrator, while becoming dangerously involved in its layers of deceit.

This experience would not be the same without the deep authentic voice of Christopher Lane. I've not only downloaded the next book in this series, but also a list of all audiobooks narrated by him.

I'm still processing my reactions to and gratitude for this excellent book by Lance McMillan. I may wait a few days while I savor it before I start the next one, but I might not be able to!
