Publisher's summary

From the acclaimed author of The Woman in the Dark: A young teacher struggles to solve the mystery of her sister's death while battling hallucinations of her own.

Two girls went down to the woods...but only one came back.

There's a lot from Tess' childhood that she would rather forget. The family who moved next door and brought chaos to their quiet lives. The two girls who were murdered, their killer never found. But the only thing she can't remember is the one thing she wishes she could.

Ten years ago, Tess' older sister died. Ruled a tragic accident, the only witness was Tess herself, but she has never been able to remember what happened that night in the woods.

Now living in London, Tess has resolved to put the trauma behind her. But an emergency call from her father forces her back to the family home, back to where her sister's body was found, and to the memories she thought were lost forever....

Memories

Loved her first book, this one dragged a little. The paranoia gets to you after a while. Could have been shorter.

Absolutely Loved This Book

As with “The Woman In The Dark” we have an original and creepy story with many layers and dual timelines. I found that this book held my attention from start to finish and I also found the characters to be very well developed, and there are several.
It’s well paced, atmospheric and wonderfully descriptive. At times it’s particularly creepy too, which I deeply appreciate. This is one of those things many authors promise but they don’t often deliver.
Vanessa Savage truly understands what makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and there is always follow through with her promises to be creepy. The story is filled with interesting characters and beautiful locations and the ending makes sense, which I also deeply appreciate. It wasn’t the MOST original way to do it but it made sense and felt complete.
I loved the narrator from start to finish. She has a gorgeous speaking voice and still performs the male characters quite well and with distinction.
Absolutely one of my favorite books of the year.
So much so I am going back and listening to The Woman In Th Dark Again.
Thank you for a very enjoyable listen.
