A swoony small town, second chance, law enforcement romance from New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

It’s been twenty years since I said those words. Since Grant Malone’s smile fell hearing them seconds before I walked out of our third-grade classroom thinking I’d never see him again.

He’s not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. I thought time had healed all wounds. I was wrong.

Nothing could have prepared me for how I’d feel when I finally saw him again. The little boy I once knew is now a grown man. A grown man who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and kind.

I wasn’t supposed to feel like this about a man who knows too much about my past, one I’d sworn was off-limits. But some bonds are unbreakable regardless of time.

One night. No questions asked. That’s what I’ll give us to get whatever this is out of our systems. To prove to him I’m okay and over the past. To prove to myself I can walk away without regrets.

I was a fool to think one night would ever be enough.

Consider: the depictions of abuse in this book are gratuitous. I'd love to know if therapists or counselors were used during research. The way that storyline played out felt icky. Like perhaps it could have been addressed differently... Moving on.

I just finished all three books in the series, so the review for this book is also considering it's the end of the series. I give it an, "Eh" rating. I thought they could be way better. Also, you're going to have Joe Arden narrate and NOT have him do any steamy scenes?? Anyway, let me refocus. I noticed with the "first" book in the series that it seemed like it started out of order. I thought it would make more sense in this one with some big arc. Nope. It's definitely an error that this was advertised as the last in the series, not the first. This one especially was way too cheesy, over-the-top romantic for me. There was definitely grit and adversity, but there was never a doubt they'd end up together. Grant had some nice grand gestures, but Emerson never did. I don't remember any time she went out of her way to make him feel special. I've read much stronger series than this. Unfortunately, I'll be avoiding other books from this author. Honestly, if I had read this one first, I wouldn't have listened to the others.
