One last trip before the baby gets here…
That’s all the getaway is meant to be.
Then the guests arrive.
When Calvin and Sadie decide to spend their babymoon in a remote cabin in the snowy mountains before their first child is due, it’s supposed to be a chance for them to connect, relax, and celebrate their future.
Before the vacation even gets started, shocking news leaves the couple reeling. To make matters worse, their arrival at the rental is marked by strange behavior from the homeowners, and Sadie can’t shake the paranoia that she’s being watched.
When another revelation comes to light that’s so distressing it cracks the stable foundation Calvin and Sadie once stood on, everything changes.
Suddenly unable to decide whom to trust and how to move forward, the getaway takes a terrifying turn. Just how safe are they up in the mountains all alone? Someone knows their location, and if the couple can’t discover the truth before it’s too late, their last trip before the baby arrives might just be their last trip… ever.
The secrets, lies, and betrayals hidden in this sinister domestic thriller from million-copy bestselling author Kiersten Modglin will chill you to your core.

I just finished reading "The Last Trip" by Kiersten Modglin, and I'm still reeling from the experience. First and foremost, I want to thank Kiersten for including LGBT representation in her book. It's so refreshing to see authors actively working to make their stories more inclusive.
Now, onto the review...
I was hooked from the very first page. Kiersten dropped a bombshell on us within the first 4 pages, and I was like, "Wait, what?!". The twist was expertly done, and I love how it completely flipped my expectations on their head.
What I appreciate most about Kiersten's writing is how she tackles the trope of the "crazy" partner. For too long, women have been stereotyped as the obsessive ones in relationships. But Kiersten turns this on its head, showing us that men can be just as crazy, controlling, and manipulative.
The way she weaves together the narrative, slowly revealing the truth about the characters and their relationships, is pure mastery. I was on the edge of my seat, guessing and second-guessing myself until the very end.
Overall, "The Last Trip" is a gripping, twisty thriller that will keep you up all night. Kiersten Modglin is a talented author who is not afraid to push boundaries and challenge her readers. I'm so glad I took a chance on this book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!
The ending is just plain wrong. Sadie kills Cal by faking his suicide while smothering him with a pillow. The author writes that no one will ever be able to prove he was murdered. But that completely dismisses the fact that deaths, including suicide, generally result in an autopsy which would prove he died by suffocation, not suicide. Or at least, only suicide. This error really ruined the book for me. Unless the pillow was only to cover his cries for help? But then even then there would still be tell-tale evidence left behind.
Sorry.
Good story but the ending “killed” it.
