Our marriage started out as a scandal. He was my professor, and I was his student. But every scandal eventually fades. I just didn't know our love would, too.

We had it all—a lake house, two kids, and twenty years of marriage. Except, our marriage was no longer exciting. We scheduled intimacy, ate meals in silence, and became strangers.

Our kids went off to college, and we were now empty-nesters, trying to reconnect. But my husband, a psychology professor and thriller novelist, had other plans. Perhaps writing a fictional novel had him living in a false reality? Perhaps he was having a mid-life crisis?

He didn't want to reconnect with me; he just wanted to replace me. Worst of all, the girl he was having an affair with was our son's girlfriend.

Betraying me was one thing, but betraying our son…? I had to make him pay.

So, I hired my son's girlfriend to lure my husband and to stay away from my son. But soon after, bodies began to turn up, the truth started to blur, and lies began to grow.

My husband swore I was overreacting and nothing is as it seems, but I don't believe him.

Ridiculous ending

First, if the main character cried any more, I would have lost it. This book was interesting but the so called twist at the end that went on and on was absurd. Also, the narrator was over the top emotive...do not recommend.

Insane

I didn’t see this coming AT ALL. And it kept delivering til the end, with the wildest wrap up I’ve ever encountered.

Favorite Book So Far in 2025!

So many twists and turns it was hard to know who to believe! Felt so many emotions throughout this book. Now it’ll be hard to pick a book to read next!

Keeps you interested

This one takes a break from the gore which is nice and it's teeters on over the top twist with this dream situation but pulls back so that was pretty clever. The big reveal also could've been cheeseball if introduced frivously but you just shrug and go with it because it can be plausible. The way it ends leaves it open easily for a part 2.

It kept me guessing! I enjoyed all the twists and turns! Narrator was great also. Very smooth voice.

Great book!

Warren has an addiction that was never directly addressed, even with everything else going on. Nina irritated me at times because of her inaction in certain situations. Scarlet turned out to be one of those characters you hate to like, but you low-key do. Then, there's Max, Ava, and Adam. Neither seemed genuine and at times acted as though they were hiding something. As it turns out, everyone was hiding something, and I swear the book seemed to end about four times before it finally did.
