Furious

I have never in my life been so angry after reading a book! I absolutely despised the main character with every fiber of my soul! I kept waiting and waiting for justice and I was sorely sorely disappointed and disgusted. I'll never forgive you for this John Marrs 😡

So unbelievably evil

I have enjoyed this author a lot. He really knows how to pull you in and get you involved in the people/story. However, this book was tedious. Not sure if it was the voice of the Laura or just the fact that she was able to get away with things that never caught up with her and we're just too over the top at times. I like an evil main character, but this one seemed vapid. The one thing she really enjoyed in life was getting to hear/feel a person's last breath before dying. With that ambition in life, what else do you even want to know about her. She inspired no empathy or understanding. She was just pure evil and by the end of the book, I felt that if her evil were sugar, I had just tried to swallow 5 tablespoons in a row with no liquid chaser. Definitely not the best I've read of this author.

Another great story

I can’t tell you how many times I said out loud “wait..WHAT!?” I absolutely love John Marrs and have not found a book of his I haven’t loved. Very good story, cat and mouse game, loved it.

Insanity at its finest!

Just when I think I can’t run across a more unhinged FMC, I read about another one. Laura has officially made the list of one of the top unhinged. If you’re obsessed with a d3ath, working for a call center at a suic!de prevention hotline may not be the best fit right? I think Laura missed that memo. John Marrs wastes no time letting readers know early on if something isn’t quite right here.

She appears to have met her match with Ryan, but is there ever really a match for someone with this level of delusion? Hearing the story told from Laura & Ryan’s POV added depth to the story and the narrators in the audiobook do a great job with both. Overall a good read if you enjoy stories with multiple storylines!

Dark Humor

What a main character. This book won't be everyone's cup of tea, due to its brutal subject matter, but it is mine. If you are in the mood for unflinching cruelty, and endless manipulation from a protagonist, then look no further. Giving a summary would spoil the fun, so I won't.

An Original Plotline

Just as I thought I was on the verge of growing bored of a character and plotline I initially found intriguing, bam! The story took off with fascinating twists and the introduction of additional complex characters. I read so many thrillers that some of them tend to blur together in my memory over time. This story will not be one of the forgotten.

Disturbing!

It’s so hard to say “I really liked this novel” when the storyline was disturbing BUT it was very well written and I kept listening till the end. I was hoping for a happy ending…..

What a mind f*ck

My first experience with this author. I’m still in shock from all the twists and turns in this book. Right up until very last page you just don’t know what’s going to happen. If you enjoy psychological thrillers you HAVE to read this!

So many twists!

As usual John Marrs doesn't disappoint. Great book by one of my favorite writers. Makes you think about help hotlines differently.
