A sweet but melancholy story of family, old loves, anger and endearment. A story line we all know from some other time.

Captivating

but there are gaps that aren't explained if they were meant to enhance the story - like why mother and father state the same child was born in two d
different years.

Interesting listen but

this is a great short novel. I enjoyed every minute but especially toward the end there's a great surprise. the ending is very well-crafted and emotionally powerful.

Not since "A Handmaid's Tale" have I been unable to step away from a story. Filled with mystery, concern, confusion, surprise, and bittersweet resolve. For anyone who enjoys family intrigue, I highly recommend this listen. Superbly performed.

Surprisingly captivating

A real story with enough depth to keep me listening with hardly a break.. Exceptionally good narration. Four hours was the perfect length to develop the story and characters and there was not a minute of extraneous detail or dialogue. I hardly choose fiction from the freebie choices because they are usually so badly written, overperformed, or just boring. This one was excellent.

I have never heard of this author before but I will definitely be looking into her work. To be able to write a full mystery/thriller novel taking place in the COVID-19 era, when we’re only about five months into said era, is genius!

While I basically figured out the gist of what was coming about halfway through the novel, unlike some other authors, this author wrote this novel so cleverly that I kept second-guessing myself. There was one minor discrepancy but otherwise this novel
was pitch perfect. Again, this is about our current era. How did she write this so quickly and so expertly?

The narrator is also fantastic! I cannot recommend this delightful read enough?

Timely and Genius!

A delightfully fun story with a very modern subject, our current Pandemic!! While it does not focus specifically on the pandemic, it does demonstrate how it affected the lives of an extended family being reunited. I enjoyed the story about the young girl, raised to be a scammer, and how she became to love her Pop ( Grandfather). She was to scan him but in the end could not!! She saved his life while having to push her own father off a roof ! I enjoyed the interactions of his own daughter and her suspicions and detective work lol! Well performed and of course wanted to hear more after it was done!!

The Cuckoo's Cry by Caroline Overington is a moving story. Quite Brilliant & such an eye opener. The scammers are all over the place, all over the world. Sadly, the internet makes a lot easier for these crooks..
