story

it was a good book, I look forward to listening to the next. it was paced well and I loved it a lot

I wanted to read it but she was in the middle of it so I got here and now I’m 2 days in and almost done grade A read.

Amazing!!

I LOVED this one!! I haven’t gotten this into a book since I last read TOG and that’s saying a lot for me! This was an incredible listen. Amazing plot, fun twists, and a great voice actor as well! Highly recommend!!

What a ride! An absolute must-read!

This is the kind of book that makes me glad I picked up reading again. I love lots of world building, which this certainly has. Such a unique world and lore I loved getting lost in. The emotional roller coaster that was unraveling the mystery of Lightlark had me listening well past times I should have slept. An ending that only makes me want more, and thankful I found this book at a time the next is readily available. The only reason I gave performance 4/5 was some whispered lines were such a volume change I missed words and had to go back to hear them.

Light Lark

Loved the character and world building in this book. There were twists and turns and suspense and even some romance. All of the things needed to make a great book!

Decent story

I like the story idea - a couple small spicy scenes and the extra chapter was full spice. I wanted less love triangle and more emotional romance and meat… I wanted something more.

I absolutely loved this but much like Isla I am very conflicted on where my heart wants to be. The twist for me, was unexpected. I trulyyy felt betrayed. I think a good book makes you feel different kinds if emotions and this one did it for me.

The suspense!

I alternated between the audiobook and book.
I give this book a 3.5-4 stars and the audiobook 4.5 stars.

Think of The Hunger Games but darker and magical and you get Lightlark.
The fmc Isla Crown has to fight for her people and realm to break a terrible curse on an island that appears every 100 years. There are so many secrets, twists and turns, and lies from a the rulers and will keep you on your toes.

At first I found the story confusing but started to enjoy it. Like most fantasy books-it starts a bit slow so you can understand the backstory but the suspense is worth the wait.
The reason I was a bit iffy on the rating is because I had a hard time keeping track of some of the names, powers, and different groupings.
I definitely didn’t guess the major plot towards the end which I appreciated because I like the surprise of a good fantasy.
There is also a little bit of a love triangle going on between 2 of the rulers so I can’t wait to see what happens next.
The story does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.

Enemies—to-lovers= CRACK

I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this book. However I sat. I listened. I devoured. Enemies to lovers anything give it to me I will eat that up all day long. I don’t care what it is! Give it to me it is a drug—I am addicted. I went out and bought Nightbane and just got Skyshade!

The characters

I loved the main protagonist, and the plot. Normally female leads are just super into all the guys and can’t seem to make one good decision but this girl was smart, clever, resourceful and still kind and caring, she had agency and none of the story was contrived, she messed up but fixed her mistakes and did what she thought was right. The story had a kind of love triangle that I can get behind and I loved how the story had me rooting for the right guy by the end. The main bad guy was a bit of a surprise though I did guess it early but that didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the twist. Perfect book!
