Acerca de esta escucha
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A frank, funny and informative guide to menopause and aging by beloved actress Naomi Watts, one of the leading voices in menopause awareness—with a foreword by Mary Claire Haver, MD, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The New Menopause
At thirty-six, Naomi Watts had just completed filming King Kong and was trying to start a family when she was told that she was on the brink of menopause. It is estimated that seventy-five million women in the United States are currently dealing with menopause symptoms (dry itchy skin, raging hormones, night sweats), and yet the very word “menopause” continues to be associated with stigma and confusion. With so little information, many women feel unprepared, ashamed, and deeply alone when the time comes.
This is the book Naomi Watts wishes she had when she first started experiencing symptoms. Like sitting down over coffee and having an intimate chat with your girlfriend, Dare I Say It blends funny and poignant stories from Naomi and her friends with advice from doctors, hormone experts, and nutritionists to take the secrecy and shame out of menopause and aging. Answering questions such as: What’s hormone therapy and should I be on it? Will I ever sleep again? Will I get myself back? What happened to my libido? Do I need eighteen serums for my aging skin? Whose body is this anyway? Who am I now? Naomi Watts shares the most up-to-date research on how to manage menopause symptoms and tackle the physical and emotional challenges we encounter as we age.
Irreverent, bold, and reassuring, Dare I Say It is the companion every woman needs to embrace the best version of herself as she moves into what can be the most powerful and satisfying period of her life.

Brooke Shields has spent a lifetime in the public eye. Growing up as a child actor and model, her every feature was scrutinized, her every decision judged. Today Brooke faces a different kind of scrutiny: that of being a “woman of a certain age.” And yet, for Brooke, the passage of time has brought freedom. At fifty-nine, she feels more comfortable in her skin, more empowered and confident than she did decades ago in those famous Calvin Kleins. Now, in Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, she’s changing the narrative about women and aging.

“I haven’t changed my diet or exercise habits and yet the scale keeps moving in the wrong direction. What’s going on?!” Time and again, this is the question Dr. Mary Claire Haver’s patients asked. At first, a practicing OB/GYN, she’d dutifully advise what she’d been taught in medical school: eat less and work out more.

For decades, Amy ran. Through the dirt roads of Amarillo, Texas, where she grew up; to the campus of the University of Virginia, as a student athlete; on the streets of New York, where she built her adult life; through marriage, motherhood, and a thriving career. To outsiders, it all looked, in many ways, perfect. But Amy was running from something—a secret she was keeping not only from her family and friends, but unconsciously from herself. “You’re here, but you’re not here,” her daughter said to her one night. “Where are you, Mom?”

Are menopause symptoms disrupting your life? Find out how to lose weight, eliminate symptoms, and get your body and mind back. Menopause can feel chaotic. You probably feel that your body and mind are out of control. There’s lots of advice and unrealistic promises about menopausal symptoms. Much of it is designed to promote particular products or create startling headlines or a great social media post. People don’t care about truth and what is effective as long as it sells.

Reseñas de la Crítica
“I stand in admiration of Naomi Watts for tackling the verboten subject of menopause. She is frank, funny, and fearless. Women all around the world will be grateful for her guiding light, as I know I am. Naomi is an American hero (even though no one really knows where she’s actually from).”—Chelsea Handler, New York Times bestselling author of Life Will Be the Death of Me. . . and You Too!
“Naomi Watt’s book, Dare I Say It, simultaneously educates, destigmatizes, and personalizes this universal female experience called menopause. Her book is clear, well-resourced, and provides a balanced approach to navigating the challenges of menopause. By sharing her story, she is showing women how to minimize suffering and maximize their health and happiness as they age. A must-read for every woman over thirty!”—Dr. Sharon Malone, New York Times bestselling author of Grown Woman Talk
“Wow! Dare I Say It is much more than a book about menopause—it’s a revolutionary guide, best friend, and expert wrapped into a fun-to-read package. Watts writes openly about her own story while beautifully weaving in cutting-edge research and expert opinions. A must-read for all women and those who care about them.”—Eve Rodsky, New York Times bestselling author of Fair Play

When Jancee Dunn hit her mid-forties, she was bombarded by seemingly random symptoms: rampant insomnia, spring-loaded nerves, weirdly dry mouth, and Rio Grande-level periods. After going to multiple doctors who ran test after fruitless test, she was surprised to finally discover the culprit—perimenopause. For more than two decades, Jancee had been reporting on mental and physical health. So if she was unprepared for this, what about all the women who don’t write about health for a living? Hot and Bothered is the book she wishes existed as she was scrambling for information.

Historia
The only thing predictable about menopause is its unpredictability. Factor in widespread misinformation, a lack of research, and the culture of shame around women's bodies, and it's no wonder women are unsure what to expect during the menopause transition and beyond. Menopause is not a disease - it's a planned change, like puberty. And just like puberty, we should be educated on what's to come years in advance, rather than the current practice of leaving people on their own with bothersome symptoms and too much conflicting information.

So she added vodka to her recipe and used her earnings to upgrade herself to first-class on a family vacation—leaving her parents and siblings in coach. She moved to Los Angeles and got fired from her temp job when she admitted she didn’t know how to transfer calls. She’s played pickleball with the scions of an American dynasty. She’s sexted a governor. She shared psychedelics with strangers in Spain.

Very informative!
Very informative! But for an actress, her narration is really robotic. I kept having to ignore her lack of inflection and just focus on the content.

Great Book & Performance
I wasn’t sure what to expect but Naomi Watts really delivers in this book and performance. I appreciate her openness and honesty, as well as her obviously well-researched points and quotes from medical professionals. The book is easy to listen to, the information is presented in a way that is not overwhelming and her willingness to be both self-deprecating and advocating is remarkable. I would recommend to any woman who wants to understand what happens and what we should be focusing on post baby years. Thank you for sharing with us; this book should help advance women’s health and reduce the stigma around menopause.

Loved the stories and up to date medical info
Thankful for this book. As an author myself, I know it can be very scary putting out your private thoughts and stories into the world but it’s worth it when you are helping others. This book and Naomi are relatable and sweet. Her narration was exceptional and heartfelt. Looking forward to my menopausal journey with more information than I had before. I have a positive outlook that we are all in this together and together we are strong, resilient and brave. Thank you Naomi.

Menopause Brea
I really enjoyed the entire audible/read. This read gave me great clarity on menopause. My mom spoke to me about menopause, but I like the way the author brought in certain medications that you can or shouldn’t take. I found this book to be extremely informative.
