I was a journalist, I had a life, friends, and then all of that was taken from me.

No, not taken, stolen.

The Brethren found out about my exposé. They realised I was getting too close to their nasty little secrets—and so they made sure I disappeared.

Except, they didn’t just grant me the mercy of a shallow grave. Oh no, instead they handed me over to Magnus Blake, practically gift-wrapped me for him.

And he’s got plans for me. Big plans.

He says I’m his new pet project. He says he’s going to break me, torture me, use me in every disgusting way he can think of.

There’s no escaping him. I know he’s too powerful to beat.

But as the days draw out, as the nights get colder, I can feel something worse taking hold of me. I can feel how my body responds, how my emotions are twisting.

I don’t want to want him.

I don’t want to crave him.

But the darkness is eating away at my sanity....

And in the end, it doesn’t matter what I feel anyway; my life belongs to him. Every breath belongs to him.

Oh baby this was the darkest book I’ve ever read in my entire life 😅 I don’t know how to feel about it exactly , it left me quite sad towards the end but the story telling was great. I look at it as a look into a psychos mind and how things like this actually happen to women in depth. Debating on book 2 but good luck with your emotions in this one , it’s a roller coaster baby . I wouldn’t classify it as spice , it’s more educational if anything but if you’re into this kind of thing then it’s a 5 for spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

🎧 Duet Narration: Alyssa Avery & Matthew Sharpe

This might be the darkest, most “pitch black” romance I’ve ever listened to—and I’m still processing it. The storyline pulled me in immediately, blending the danger and decadence of a secret society with the unnerving intimacy of captivity. The Brethren Lords’ world is dripping with power, corruption, and hidden agendas, and watching Liliana get pulled deeper into their shadows kept me hooked.

The trigger warnings do not exaggerate—Magnus is morally black with absolutely no redeeming qualities, and the book never tries to soften that. The tension between him and Liliana is a constant push and pull—equal parts fear, defiance, and unwanted attraction. I found myself questioning my reactions at every turn—Did I like this? And if I did, why? That unsettling, self-reflective edge is part of what made it such an intense listen.

Matthew Sharpe embodied Magnus with cold precision and sinful menace, while Alyssa Avery’s posh British accent brought Liliana to life with sophistication and vulnerability. Her performance made her strength and hidden moments of fear feel incredibly real, and you could almost hear her resolve crack when she was alone.

Dark, twisted, and brimming with secret-society intrigue—Deviant will push your boundaries and keep you thinking long after the final chapter.

I loved the accents Alyssa Avery and Matthew sharpe used, I was captivated by their voices. This book is super dark and has a lists of triggers. This was my first book I’ve ever listened to by Ellie Sanders. This may not be somes cup of tea and there were some gruesome dark parts but I’d definitely like to read the second book. I can’t wait to explore this authors books more. It has somewhat of a HEA but don’t let this think it’s all romancy but it is not. The MMC is not redeemable and is dark but the FMC as she’s held captive becomes submissive to him. Scale of darkness would be 5/5 for me. Narration was 5/5 for me and while there is spice it’s not always the kind you are wanting.

I’ve been interested to read Deviant, and getting the chance listening to it was amazing. Alyssa Avery and Matthew Sharp were the perfect pair to bring Liliana and Magnus to life. But beware this is super dark,no not dark, pitch black. So be 100% sure to check the trigger warnings carefully. Liliana is a journalist who starts to write about the Brethren (Secret Society), but specifically Magnus. Magnus is a reaper for the Brethren, and when people go against them they sometimes end up at his club Oblivion. Oblivion, is a club your meant to serve others(with your body) and take your punishment. Magnus puts Liliana through unspeakable things and let others hurt her as well. There is definitely some Stockholm syndrome going on eventually. This was black as hell but the plot was good and it was extremely well written. I’m intrigued to see what Depravity, Conrad’s book brings us.

This book was a secret society/kidnapping dark romance-really, a pitch black and erotic horror girlie read. It featured some intense themes and a lot of trigger warnings. It definitely. hit the mark as a very dark story, maybe even leaning more towards erotic horror. The MMC was not a good man at all... I was intrigued at first, but towards the end, I started to lose interest. I think if the story had stayed purely as a pitch black, dark story without the Stockholm Syndrome romance, I might have enjoyed it more. The HFN ending felt a bit forced, but that's just my opinion! I absolutely loved the narration-the book was very complex and emotional, and the narrators did an excellent job bringing it to life. I'm giving the book a 3.75 stars because of the ending and the themes, which were definitely very dark. It was clear from the start that the MMC wasn't a good man, so I wasn't expecting him to be saved. Still, for a pitch black read, it was quite intense, and I wasn't really a fan of the SS/HFN ending.

Ellie said you want toxic, and irredeemable, here you go.

This was something. I love a good pitch black book, but I prefer when I can at least feel something for the main characters. While I could sympathize with the FMC, the MMC is just toxic, which don’t get me wrong I love a toxic, morally black MMC, but he has to have something there, tragic backstory explaining why he is the way he is, a single redeemable quality, a small moment of redemption, he has none…I mean excluding being hot and rich. If I dug really deep the best moment I could give this man is the fact that he offers to unalive her quickly at one point. So I guess maybe there was one.

The Brethren hold all the power, and when one journalist tries to expose them, they’re not about to let that happen. Instead of the quick death they want for her, Magnus has other plans, he wants to break her first, mold her into his perfect pet. Liliana isn’t about to submit so easy however, and despite Magnus wanting her entire submission, he also enjoys her fire. He is not a good man though, and isn’t above sharing his toys.

This is not a romance, and isn’t intended to be one. This is pitch black, the MMC isn’t redeemable, and never pretends to be, if there is a trigger warning in existence chances are it’s in this book. While I wouldn’t say this is a HEA, it’s a close to one that you can get in this scenario.

The narrators were phenomenal, the experience I had listening to this was far different than when I read it, in the best way possible. They truly captured the characters and all the emotions in this story.

This was wild!

Deviant is the first audiobook in Ellie Sanders’ series, The Brethren Lords. The first thing I need to say regarding this audiobook is to definitely check the trigger warnings, and I mean seriously examine them. I don’t typically have triggers and consider myself to be a connoisseur of dark romance at this point, but this story even pushed my limits. I actually don’t personally believe this story quite qualifies as dark romance. Firstly, it’s not dark; it’s blacker than black (which the author is very clear about). And there’s little to no actual romance. The story is heavy on the erotica, but it’s certainly not what you would call romantic. Now that I’ve told you all this story is not, let me tell you what it is. It is a beautifully-written, brutally-erotic train wreck that you can’t look away from. You don’t want to look away because you absolutely cannot live without knowing what new and twisted thing will happen next. This is a story of depraved captivity and submission anchored by a truly evil secret society. This is the stuff of nightmares, people. And the incredible duet-style narration from Alyssa Avery and Matthew Sharpe makes this story even more compelling. Alyssa Avery does an excellent job of taking Lilliana from confident, driven journalist to broken yet still defiant captive and everything in between. She exhibits a level of emotion in her performance that is truly breathtaking. And Matthew Sharpe as Magnus is just deliciously evil perfection. Hearing the brutal and depraved dialogue that Magnus routinely spews delivered in Matthew’s beautifully deep, posh British accent is downright chilling. This story might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but in my opinion, it’s absolutely brilliant in its perversion. And I, for one, am all in on this series!

This is dark, dark, dark erotica… but so, so good! Narration is next level!

If you want a pitch black MMC with no morals, you’re going to love Magnus. But make no mistake that this is toxic AF. Lilliana, our FMC is so feisty and I truly admire her for how long she’s able to resist with everything that is done to her. Check the TW if you need to because this definitely includes a lengthy list of them!

Narrated in duet by Alyssa Avery & Matthew Sharpe. They brought this book to life and made it so much better! Would definitely recommend the audio if you’re considering reading this book!

Pitch black & toxic!

This is a very, very, very pitch black horror/thriller erotica that is absolutely NOT made for everyone. Magnus is pure EVIL, but then there is this twisted soft spot for him and THAT had me going WTF is wrong with me 😂 Liliana! I felt so bad for her throughout her entire journey and to the end of their crazy HEA.

So amazing!
