It was more than just dark. There was actually a story! And I loved the possessiveness!

The story

This retelling is definitely unique, dark, and intense. The relationship between the two leads is the definition of toxic but it a weird meant to be together way. There were so many twists and turns, I listened to the audiobook in one sitting. Both narrators were fantastic. I cannot wait for Lamb!

This was such an amazing audio. I couldn't get enough. The voices... whew. This was definitely something I would listen to again.

This man is no good and yet! Narcissistic, egotistical Dr Michaels is obsessed with Emily and he will have her or no one will. Such an amazing dark retelling of Rumpelstiltskin.

The storyline was good, and as twisted as it may be, it was hard not to like them both. Looking forward to the next one, as the plot thickened right at the end.

Oh this was an amazing story. The storyline is so addicting. This is dark please check your trigger warnings. Oh but so worth it.

I decided in preparation For Lamb ( book two of the series) to come out to revisit one of my Favorites so Far for 2025. Each book in the Renegades series is a stand alone dark Romance based on fairy tales and fables.

Skin is A Psychotic Romance set partially inside a decommissioned Insane asylum. This is a VERY Dark Story and does have many triggers that some will find disturbing.

I loved this book, though its said Happy Ever After, as many Grimm Fairytells tell us it's not always perfect. Depending on how you look at it this is classic Stockholm Syndrome. But in the end the Mad Doctor does get the girl.

My favorite part of this book is its honest raw look at what grief can do to a person. The good doctor with plans for the future, and it be ripped from him. Yes he has a lack of people skills, and is neurodivergent with psychotic tendencies beforehand makes him go extreme in it. But looking at all he lost in the blink of an eye, hehe, I don't think many people wouldn’t lose themselves. When it comes down to it, we all meticulously plan for our future and when it doesn’t go the way we want we have a mental snap. Maybe not to the extreme of The MMC, but there are cases every day of this. From Black Widows, to Hikikomori Syndrome, Bombing Shooting ect.

If you can Handle the triggers Give this book a shot. Even Better Listen to it on Audio, because Sean Masters and Maeve York do a phenomenal reading.

This is actually a 4.5 out of 5 for me! Can I say first off that I listen to the audiobook of this and why does Sean Masters have to do such a good job in every audiobook he is in!! This is probably one of the best retailing stories I have ever read/listen to if you don’t know skin is a Rumpelstiltskin retailing is a very dark retailing. There are things in this novel that’s not suited for all readers. It is very dark so if you do want to read Skin, please check your trigger warnings because your mental health does matter. Quick overview of skin is our MMC Cohen nicked named Frankie (you will learn while in the book) has reacquainted himself with our FMC Emily, and we get a glimpse into their past in the things that went on between them. So the first part of the book is told in the present, part two is set 10 years prior to that part three is sent a few weeks after part two and then part four comes back to the present. I do really love the way Sybil told it through that narrative. Sometimes whenever we’re dealing with flashbacks or things of that nature, I either want it to be a longer prologue or have like a section of the book that is dedicated like it’s own part and Sybil really did it well with Skin. Because we have part two, which is Cohen and Emily meeting, part three is what happens after something horrible happens to Cohen and then obviously part four is wrapping everything up. I really had a great time reading this, it is the first book of a series known as the renegades. I will also say that this book is full of spice. I would probably give it a 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ out of five.
