The author wrote a beautiful yet gritty journey of a young woman who unfortunately watches her father lose his life only to end up in the hands of complete monsters. Trust me when I say, the author did not hold anything back. Read the TW's... this story is not for the weak. Told brilliantly in a duet narration, Mia Moreno and Sean Masters gave an incredible performance, bringing all of the feels and emotions to the surface.

This brings up the age-old question; are monsters born or are they created? This book evokes all emotions: anger, fear, frustration, hate, heartbreak, sadness, joy, swooning… all of them.

The mental health rep is a favorite trope of mine, and the Cori executed it perfectly. There were so many moving parts, multiple character developments, flashbacks within flashbacks… this book will leave you feeling raw and possibly staring at the wall. It’s a twisted dark romance that is also pitch black. I cannot stress enough, read the TW’s. I listened to the warnings but I still was not prepared. This was a brutal journey of a young girl who just wanted to be happy and free.

This was an absolutely heartbreaking and incredible audiobook. Mia Moreno and Sean Masters were phenomenal at bringing these characters to life. I was absolutely blown away!

The audio for The Darkness is a huge part of why this book hit me as hard as it did. This story is incredibly harrowing… painful, heartbreaking, and full of moments where you swear it can’t possibly get worse… and then it does. There were so many points where I kept thinking… where’s the escape? where’s the grand gesture? where’s the moment this finally turns into a love story? And it honestly blew my mind that it wasn’t until the very, very end. Sean Masters absolutely impressed me with how clearly he delivered the three alternate identities. They’re wildly different, and he makes each one feel distinct and real without ever pulling you out of the story. And Mia Moreno… wow. The way she brought Nessie to life had so much heart. Then she turned around and voiced the horrible mother in a way that made my skin crawl… and still gave the FMC so much depth and ache. The range on her in this one is unreal. I cried at several parts, and I was completely floored by the plot twist at the end. The amount of pain these characters go through at the hands of a parent is staggering… and the narrators don’t just read it. They carry you straight through it.

Tropes: Dark romance, trauma recovery, dissociative identity (multiple identities), childhood abuse (heavy), survival and healing, high angst, emotional slow-burn to the love story, plot twist ending.

Let me just start by saying how AMAZING this duet narration audiobook is. Sean Master and Mia Moreno absolutely KILLED IT!!!! 10/10 performances.

This book is going to take me 7-10 business days to process but holy hell it was absolutely amazing. It had me by the NECK from the very beginning. Such a unique story that will have you hooked and dying to figure out what's going to happen next. Honestly, it's one of the best books I've read in a VERY long time. I went in blind and I love that I did. I had no idea what I was in for and lord did the plot slap me upside the head.

Warning: the trigger list for this baby is long
