Effie Campbell once again delivers a dangerously addictive, taboo-tinged romance that blurs the line between obsession and surrender. Logan and Valentina’s chemistry is combustible and his internal battle between duty and desire had me hanging on every word, while Valentina’s confidence and refusal to stay “off-limits” made her an instant favorite.

The narration trio absolutely nailed the tension and emotional depth and each voice enhanced the forbidden pull and made every heated exchange feel alive. The pacing lagged slightly in the middle, but the buildup and payoff were worth it.

If you love your dark romances with a touch of moral grayness and a whole lot of heat, Dark Desires will scratch that itch perfectly.

Book four of the McGowan Mafia Series, Dark Desires by Effie Campbell, grabbed by attention from the beginning! Throughout this listen I had in the back of my mind what certain characters may get up to in this book. I will say, my hunch was correct. The how and the why of how this dark twist came to be, was unexpected. I am here of it.

Our FMC, Valentina has an interesting career as a Cam girl who shares an apartment with her best friend Lara. In her down time, Valentina loves to bake, and by all accounts bakes like an "absolute goddess". Logan is our MMC who is finding his way since taking over running of the family business, the McGowan syndicate. Unlike Valentina, Logan's new position is weighing heavily on his mind, and with his business arrangement in the form of upcoming nuptials fast approaching. Logan has little time for any fun. Needing a distraction, Logan discovers Valentina. So begins the push and pull as they play with fire.

Valentina and Logan are both powerful s3xually confident characters. I could feel their connection to each other strengthening the deeper I ventured into their story. At first I thought it was all about the depravity these two craved. The balance between their desire to share a dark deviant bond whilst trying to appease others (particularly Logan) had me a little frustrated at times. This frustration is warranted within this story, and had me devouring this book hastily. I was cheering for these two to be wrapped in happiness and joy as they lived out their intense dark unhinged fantasies.

The intensity and emotion is brought to the table by three fantastic voice actors, Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills and James Joseph. Both Francesca and Freddie are new to me actors, and I enjoyed their performance immensely! Francesca, Freddie and James portrayed each and every character with flawless precision, particularly with the scenes of torment, fighting their dark desires, to the intense unhinged spicy scenes.

Thank you Effie for another enjoyable story which I both read and listened to. I am invested in the McGowan Mafia Series and cannot wait for the next instalment. Not ready for this series to end.

Dark Desires delivers in every category from high emotions, delicious spice, and intense twists and turns. What’s intriguing about this story is it’s not just about getting to the end result with spice, but taking the time to understand how a person feels and thinks to really know what makes them sexually light up. Logan, the MMC, is very strategic in how he develops a connection with someone in an intimate way. He slowly draws out Valentina’s vulnerabilities, greatest desires, and needs. Logan isn’t all about himself, he wants Valentina’s desires to be the upmost importance because learning her’s in turn gives him the most pleasure. He wants the exquisite combination of feeling satiated, but also cherished. Valentina, the FMC, knows what she wants out of life and takes pride in everything she does especially her job. She wants to be seen and values her independence. She’s confident in her abilities, but wants a challenge that stops her in her tracks. Let’s just say Logan teases out all her desires so well Valentina feels she’s met her match. The narrators Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, & James Joseph will have you so addicted to this story you will without a doubt give your full submission. Francesca Peregrine beautifully articulates an authentic scottish accent that makes Valentina's allure much more enticing. Freddie Wills's voice will have you curling your toes and begging for more. James Joseph's voice provides the extra flare to keep edging you on for the sweetest torture.

This book is SPICY SPICY SPICY.

Its a mafia romance. forbidden. I enjoyed the story overall but there just wasn't much going on.

The masked men thing was great! Mafia aspect great! There just wasn't much of a plot or not enough for me at least. If you want more smut than plot then this book is for you!

But I did enjoy the audio a lot!

Audio is fantastic! All 3 narrators did fantastic! Really brought the story to life! 💜

Well now I have to go touch grass after finishing this audio. 🫠 omg this was so hottttt!!! Effie you put your whole body into this book. 🤭

This was, by far, the spiciest from the series so far, and is filled with kinks galore! This is definitely your one-handed read, or the read you reach for when you want more spice versus plot. Trust me.. you will not regret a second of it.

What really made this stand out in my opinion, was how much of a go getter Valentina is. When this woman sets her eyes and mind on something, she will stop at nothing to get it. Which is exactly how she wore her Daddy down. That poor man 😅 Valentina was absolutely relentless in making Logan cave, and cave he did. 😏 I truly loved the chemistry between Logan and Valentina, I mean these two together are fiery levels of sexy. 🔥

Every time a spicy scene happened, I kept thinking “it can’t get spicier than this”, then Effie went and gave us the sharing scenes and other types of play scenes that I can’t mention and my mouth was on the floor! Just so incredibly hot and so so spicy. 🥵

As for the audio itself, I feel like Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, and James Joseph were incredible. Really enjoyed their accents and the performances. James played some of the supporting characters, while Francesca and Freddie mainly played our MC’s. They blended so well together and did such an incredible job on the narration. Highly recommend this series on audio!!

It’s been a wild ride so far! & I’m really looking forward to Ewen’s book next!

Omg where do I begin?!?! This man is everything and more! He made all her fantasies come true and then some. The ending was the most perfect ending to a book yet. This definitely had my attention from the start. She was not shy about what she wanted and he wasn’t shy about wanting to give it to her. But first, he had to make her submit and learn that she wasn’t going to get things so easily. I won’t lie when I say that ending was definitely something that peaked my interest haha!

This book flipped the script in the best way, and I loved every minute of it.
Valentina knows exactly what she wants and doesn’t hesitate. Logan does his best to stay on the straight-and-narrow… but let’s be honest, he never stood a chance. Once she walked into Rosenhall, all bets were off.
And Alfie? My beloved agent of chaos. Every time he appeared, the tension and trouble doubled, and I was absolutely delighted. He stole every scene he was in and added so much spark to the story.

This book was packed with twists, tension, and moments that left me staring at the wall in shock. There’s a scene with Logan, Alfie, and Valentina that has been living rent-free in my head ever since—intense, emotional, and unforgettable.

🎧 Performed in duet by Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, and James Joseph — the narration was outstanding. Francesca delivers every emotion effortlessly, Freddie’s accent is irresistible, and James Joseph brings such presence and depth that even the quiet moments feel charged.

OMG. I have to admit that this is truly the first time listening to an audiobook, where I actually had to pace myself. This is because I found myself so in the "mood", that I had to take mini breaks just to calm myself down again. All of the narrators, Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, and James Joseph were amazing! I also found myself talking with a slight accent for about a week after listening to this audiobook.

Looking for your next dark, age gap romance that will have you needing a cigarette and a cold shower afterwards, then, you need to pick up Dark Desires by Effie Campbell! This book had everything I craved...scorching hotness, touch her and d!e vibes, sexy main characters, and so much s#x.

Once, I started reading, I truly could not stop. I was blazing through this book so fast. There are so many moments that I highlighted. You better stock up on annotating tabs.

Valentina knows what she wants and is not afraid to go after it. Logan's resolve is not as strong as he would like to hope it is where Valentina is concerned. The teasing from Valentina just added to the buildup. Logan and Valentina together!

This is an interconnected standalone in the McGowan mafia series and I have been loving the audios for this series! This audio is performed in duet by Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, & James Joseph and they did a great job at bringing the story to life! I couldn’t stop listening to it!! Check your TW if you need to before reading/listening but if you love the tropes below, then you will definitely enjoy this!

Dark Desires is absolutely the dark Scottish mafia romance you never knew you needed! This is a standalone story set in the world of the McGowan Mafia series by Effie Campbell. But trust me, you do not need to have read or listened to the other books in the series to completely devour this book. But you will likely wind up with a few more audiobooks added to your TBL list after listening to this. The story is set in Scotland amongst the crime syndicates of Glasgow and Edinburg and features age gap, forbidden romance, and arranged marriage tropes. This audiobook is intense! It grabs you right from the start and never lets go. It’s dark, kinky, twisty, sexy, and romantic. You will fall in love (and definitely in lust) with Logan, the penultimate mafia boss with an extremely naughty streak, and Valentina, who is sassy, sexy, independent, and only slightly stalkerish. They are perfect for each other, except for the pesky little fact that Logan has already agreed to an arranged marriage with Valentina’s cousin. The attraction is so strong, though, that they cannot stay away from each other, and before long, real feelings develop between them. But backing out of an arranged mafia marriage that’s joining two powerful crime syndicates could be extremely hazardous to one’s health. I was 100% invested in this story from the jump and loved seeing how this provocative couple navigated the seemingly-insurmountable obstacles to their happily ever after. And while they navigated those obstacles, they got busy. A Lot! On a scale of 1 to 10, the spice level in this audiobook is about a 50! And the fact that it’s delivered in Logan’s deep, growly, Scottish Daddy-Dom accent just pushes that number up even higher! But this story is about so much more than just spice. There are definitely a few completely unexpected twists and WTF moments that help make this story so very compelling. It’s narrated in duet style by Francesca Peregrine, Freddie Wills, and James Joseph. And they all went above and beyond in bringing this story to life, ramping up the intensity and heat with their incredible performances. They all embodied their characters so fully and completely that listeners can’t help but be drawn into the story and to hang on every word spoken. If you’re a fan of dark, mafia romance audio, this title is an absolute must have!
