Laura was a bit bratty and Francesca did a wonderful job, I loved the protectiveness William gave Phoenix. I need to find more books from these two.

I’ll admit, the beginning felt a little uneven for me, but once the tension between Phoenix and Laura took hold, I was hooked. The push and pull, the danger and desire—it all built into an intense dark romance that had me devouring the last half in one sitting.
The narration was absolutely unmatched. Francesca Peregrine and William Macleod didn’t just read the story—they embodied it. The emotion, the heat, and the grit came alive in a way that made every scene hit harder.
If you love your romance dark, obsessive, and a little dangerous, this one’s worth sticking with—the payoff is worth it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. When Phoenix and Laura meet for the first time, he makes the decision he has to have her. Laura has no idea who the masked man is but all she wants is help. Not to become his and leave everything behind. The tension between these two is off the charts. Phoenix puts her through so much on and off the boat. This is a wild and crazy somewhat dark love story mixed with revenge, forgiveness, and spice.

I have been waiting for Effie's books to come to audio forever, and with plans to bring 9 books to audio in the near future, I Am Here For It !!! I really enjoyed this twist on dark romance. While it had a lot of the typical characteristics of a dark romance, it had many surprises and kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole ride. I liked the naïveté of Laura, as a sweet and mostly innocent young woman who needs to get away from her ---- family. This was my first book narrated by Francesca and she has made me rethink my opinions about British fem narrators. This was also my first book with William and he captured the raw, tortured essence of Phoenix, so well. I loved all of it, and can't wait for more from Eddie and these narrators.
Narration: Duet narration, first-person present tense, multiple-POV with a few flashbacks

Laura is due to be married off as part of an arranged marriage by her family, what when things don't go as planned, Laura ends up with a man who may not be the savior she hopes he is.
Phoenix has been treated like a ghost his whole life, so being one for the mafia made perfect sense. Until he meets Laura, and then every rule he ever had goes up in smoke, quite literally.
Phoenix knows Laura is supposed to be his, and Laura's body knows she is supposed to be his, but there is something about the masked man who won't speak, and traces words all over her body to communicate. He may not be a knight in shining armor, but he may end up being her black knight.

This was my first Effie Campbell story and I am glad I took a chance on it. Phoenix was meant to find Laura because only she can love him the way he deserves.
Having been burned and orphaned all in the same night and then forced to live in seclusion with his uncle Phoenix has never known the love of a woman. Him being called to Laura's family home to "clean up" the mess there was the best thing that could have happened to him because it brought him to her.
Poor Laura thought her life was set and in the blink of an eye all is not as she thought. Having been taken captive by Phoenix she bides her time until she can attempt an escape. In her failed attempt she ends up finding love in her heart for Phoenix. When her life ends up in danger Phoenix vows nobody will harm her.
I could not be happier with how their story goes. They make such a great team when forced to face who has been looking for her. I also love how the McGowan family is teased in this one. I cannot wait to get to more of Ms. Campbell's books.
